Terrific Implications Of Global Climate Change For The Animals In North Pole

Business has always been a great factor to the declining of natural environment. All of human race depend on a wide range of essential benefits provided by the natural environment for our day to day existence, including the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Business history has never paid much attention to the environment, yet greatly impacts the environment in a negative way including air, water, and land pollutions , marine pollution and global warming. Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Dramatic temeperature changes appeared in many regions; plants and animal ranges have shifted and flowers are blooming way sooner; ice of rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, sea ice levels are rising, and the glaciers have shrunk. Global warming is the increase of overall temperature of the earth, caused mainly by the increased levels of carbon dioxide and other kinds of pollutants. The pollutants can last for years to centuries in the atmosphere, trapping the heat absorbed from sunlight and solar radiation bounced off from the surface of the earth, causing the planet to get hotter, known as the greenhouse effect.

The main cause of today’s global warming is the combustion of the fossil fuels, the hydrocarbons heat up the planet through the greenhouse effect, caused by the interaction between Earth’s atmosphere and incoming radiation from the sun. Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise, largely caused by human activities, for decades to come. 2Bering Sea ice extent on April 29 from 2013 to 2018. (NASA) In the past few years, temperature kept on rising in all places of the world, the oppressive weather made it seem like being in a big burner when going outdoors, even leaving the room without air-conditioning takes courage. In the summer of 2018, extremely hot weathers occured in many different countries. Because of global warming, 65 people died within a week from the heatwave in Japan; some cold Nordic countries had temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius, more than 50 forest-fires happened in Sweden; moreover, the adverse weather of more than 50 degrees Celsius in Pakistan caused many deaths. The most horrific fact is that the temperature in North Pole has reached to the melting point of 32 degrees, which is about 30-35 degrees above normal. The high temperature in North Pole also increased the melting of the glaciers. In the past few decades, the vast majority of scientists believed that the melting sea ice has accelerated beyond the normal rate.

In the 1970s, the sea ice extent coverage in North Pole during the summers is usually more than 50%. However, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center in US, til 2012 the sea ice extent coverage in the North Pole is only 24%. The Arctic is one of the regions most impacted by a warming climate, Arctic sea ice covers about a million square fewer miles than it did in 1979. Most scientists, including the director of the National Snow and Ice Data Center, are predicting that the Arctic will be free of summer sea ice sometime around the 2040s. 3In 2009, some tourists were left horrified after witnessed a polar bear eating her own child out of starvation and dispair. Three years ago, a German national, Kerstin Langenberger, who works as a photographer captured the image of a horribly thin polar bear stepping on the only ice floe in the sea, its legs were shaking and it seemed like it could fall with a small push…

In fact, many polar bears are suffering from food shortage caused by the melting sea ice. Polar bears were very dependent on the ice floes, the gloabal warming led to the decreasing of ice floes so the polar bears had to swim hundreds of miles in seek of ice floes for them to take a rest. During the process of finding ice floes, usually only the strong male polar bears can succeded, and the old ones, weak ones, young ones usually die on the half way out of exhaustion. The polar bears who spend most of their lives in the water, were drowned in the water, can anyone imagine that? Because of global warming, the number of ice caves in the North Pole decreased dramatically, young seals were forced to swim in the freezing water without the important protection of body fat, most of them die from the low body temperature or malnutrition not long after they were born. The hot weather resulted from the irregular climate made the ice much thinner, that it became difficult to endure the weight of the seals. Once the ice breaks, the little seals that were just born will fall into the ocean, and there will be nothing the Mother seal can do but to watcher her children die.

These are the living conditions of animals in the North Pole, it’s very cruel but realistic. The reducing of the glaciers means the indefinite reduction of Artic animals’ living space. Some people might say that these are things happening at North Pole, we just need to live our own lives. Yet the truth is, the polar region used to be the biggest regulator on earth that has close connections on the temperature, climate, and the humidity of the world. If the glaciers continue to reduce, the impact on the planet is going to be destructive. Temperatures are increasing, sea levels are rising, and the artic animals face the risk of going extinct within decades. Every year, different kinds of animals disppear in the surrounding environments, now, the artic animals who are so far away from are disppearing as well. It’s true that looking from the current situation, the global warming isn’t causing too big of a deal in people’s daily normal lives, humans who live in the cities have cold drinks, air-conditioners and different kinds of things to drive away the summer heat, but the animals in North Pole don’t, they can only resign themselves to fate.
