The Avengers Teach Us to Be a Good Friend
Love, kindness, and being a good friend. It makes a person feel welcomed and supported. These few examples go a long way in the movie Avengers: Endgame. The great message we learned from Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame, that we often forget to do, is to always check on your friends. We need to especially check on those who you make out to be the strongest because those are sometimes the ones who need it most. We see a need for these strong characters in the film to be checked several times throughout the film.
Joe Russo, the director, says “the entire universe began with Tony Stark. He was the mechanism that brought everything together”. Although he was also seen as a man who didn’t want help from others and pushing people out of the picture, Tony found happiness and joy. Tony was able to start a family, both with his wife and his other friendships. It was indeed his failures and lowest lows that brought out the most in his successful career. To show the connection and willingness of Tony Stark leaving everything behind to fill a missing part of his life, the scene becomes super isolated to just the two of the characters, both Tony and Pepper, everything else is a blur. Furthermore after watching Peter say goodbye to his mentor, we see Pepper let Tony go, it was sad but it needed to be done. She had to accept this as his destiny and tell him that it's okay for him to go. Pepper says 'We're gonna be OK. You can rest now'. Not only is she speaking for her daughter Morger and herself, but also everyone else. Comparatively other characters had gone through some similar scenarios like; Black Widow’s denial at knowing that there’s nothing she can do to change what happened no matter how hard she tried, and then there is Thor, who dealt with his failure in an unfortunate way by choosing alcohol instead.
This idea of being kind also comes into play throughout the Avengers film. By the same token discussed above, the Hulk has finally come to terms with his own insecurities and now lives in complete justice and truth within himself. Hulk is the strongest, but remember, every so often, check on your friends to make sure they’re doing alright. Not to mention, just a simple “how are you” can make a big difference and it lets people know that someone out there cares about their mental and physical well being. Additionally, to show the importance of this theme for the duration of the film, the scenes that hold this important lesson become their own parts of the movie, a break from all of the violence, and I loved that aspect of the movie.
Avengers: Endgame, a kind hearted but super adventurous movie makes us aware of the message sent, and asks us “when was the last time I asked how my friend was?” it sets a good reminder. Nevertheless, Avengers: Endgame tells us another lesson, Tony Stark says “no amount of money ever bought a second of time”. Time is something so priceless that you cannot buy it. Yet, all of us have been gifted with time, but it comes with a trick, who will be the people who use their time wisely?
