The Benefits Of Lowering Legal Drinking Age In America
When it comes to alcohol there are many opinions on how to use it and at what age you should consume it. In the United States it's been an issue since day one, some would say that teenagers can learn to be more responsible with alcohol in a way that other countries have shown there are fewer drunk driving accidents, and also it has lower unsafe drinking activities. People find it ridiculous by the age of 18 you can purchase cigarettes and tobacco products, and if you can vote, serve your country, you should be able to consume alcohol. When lowering the drinking age it can help the economy in addition lowering the drinking age would result in more public drinking, making it easier for law enforcement to regulate it. In a way underage drinkers will consume alcohol either way, with lowering drinking it can help teenagers be more responsible rather than abusing it.
When you turn 18 in the United States your consider as an adult, but why is it that you can’t consume alcohol yet? In the United States you can purchase cigarettes and tobacco products at 18. Over the years 67 percent die from smoking cigarettes while the drinking percentage is 56. Both numbers are high even though deaths caused by smoking is 4 times higher than drinking, but yet 18 years old are able to purchase cigarettes and tobacco products. People would say both are known to be killers, it still doesn’t make sense that the product with the most deaths is legal for young adults. The age 18 means you need to take more responsibility you can now serve your country as a member of the military. Which is instance because your still a child and being able to die for your country at a young age when you still haven't lived. If you can do that shouldn't you be able to relax with an alcoholic beverage once in awhile, when using it responsibly, it can be a way to loosen up from adult stress. Also at 18, you can vote for people who run your local, state, and national governments, and get married. If your able to make important decisions at a young age in your life, you should be able to make the decisions to drink responsibly.
Even though people think lowering the drinking age is a bad idea it can actually help the economy according to The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, most of the underage drinking is 17.5 percent who are the ones spending in the U.S. If you think about it, putting it into numbers it's about 22.5 billion dollars per year. When more people are able to buy alcohol legally it will boost tax revenue, which means it will be legal to drink in bars, restaurants, and other establishments. In addition lowering the drinking age would be the outcome of more public drinking, making it easier for law enforcement to regulate it. Underage drinkers will always find a way to consume alcohol, which makes a results they drink it like water because they don't know when will be the next time they can drink again. Instead of forbidding alcohol just give them what they want and it and teach them to use it responsibly.
Once we lower the drinking age it will decrease unsafe drinking activity because in the U.S the laws create reason for unerage drinkrs to hide when their intocicated, which leads them behind the wheel. They are afraid to call home or get a ride because there afraid to admit they're drunk, so teenagers will take matters in their own hands. If young adults start drinking early it can lower the amount of dumb decusions they make like jumping off a roof becuase they will have more of a tolernce from learning to drink resobible at a younger age. In other there are fewer accidents in drunk drinking and doing bad decisions under the influence. For example in the U.K someone over 18 can buy a child over 16 beer, wine or cider if they are eating at the table enjoying their meal together in licensed premises. Teaching them that alcohol it's not all about “to party hard”, but about enjoying it with others in a calm matter.
In the U.S many states already allow alcohol consumption under the age of 21, so mine as legalize it already. Even though I haven given you many reasons on why it could be a good idea to lower the drinking age it doesn’t mean all the problems of drinking will go away. There will always be problems with drinking, but I think young adults will start to learn to use alcohol safely and use it the right way to enjoy with other people in a calm manner.
