What do you think about when you hear the word respect? Is it important in our society? Why? And how could respect help you succeed in your life and get what you want?

Respect is and should be used in our everyday life. When you go to school there is respect for your teachers and classmates, when you are at work there is respect, also in the restaurants and even with your family. Some people would believe that showing respect is insulting to yourself, they take it as a symbol of weakness. But this is definitely wrong. Society cannot function without respecting people with different religions, sex, and races.

9/11 affected Muslims by making society view them in a negative way, they also believe that every terrorist attack is caused by a Muslim. This is disrespectful because they are basically saying that all Muslims are the same. Terrorism attack is caused by a non-Muslim group, but society still gives all the blame on Muslims. 9/11 also caused ripple effects across the globe, particularly in the middle east making our nations attitudes and concerns about safety much more strict and causing turmoil in the middle east. For example, Muslim girls were affected by this blame and some of them would take off their hijab which presents their religion just because they are afraid of the society's judgment. 9/11 also changed the way the united states see other countries by becoming more aggressive and more hostile towards other countries.

Women play a very important role in our society. They raise their children, make dinner for their family, clean and sometimes work out of the house. After all the pain and the hard work they do, shouldn't they be respected in our society? Women's movement has changed in the past few years. Nowadays women have the right to get education, jobs and to choose whether they want to get married or not. Today, women are much more respectful compared to the past, they have equal rights as men. For example, at work women and men get equal work hours and payments, also in school women and men are treated the same. There is no such a difference between a man or a woman.

What is something more disgraceful than racism? It is disrespectful to say that someone is different than other. Racism is a huge issue in the united states. Unfortunately, there are many cases of racism in our society. For example, African Americans are arrested more than another non-African American. Half of the African Americans say that their children don't get the chance for a good education as Americans. Additionally, some responded that crimes and the availability of grocery stores are worse than in other areas. Moreover, racism happens every day in our society. Some people won't confess that they are racist, However, their attitude and behavior show the opposite.

In conclusion, respect is a very important term in our society and society cannot function without it. In order to be respected by others, you must respect the people around you as well. Respect builds relationships and trust between each other. It can lead to a positive change in our society. It is very disrespectful to say that someone is different than another. God created us all equal and no one should be treated different. Always remember, treat people the way you want to be treated to earn the respect.
