The Fundamentals Of The Code Of Ethics In Engineering Profession

Based on the formal code of conduct of engineers from several countries which is Singapore, United Kingdom, United State, Pakistan and Malaysia. There is some common formal code that can be outlined is like responsibility, honesty and integrity, safety and perform services only in the areas of their competence. The Code of Ethics is a guide designed specifically to help professionals such as engineering do their job honestly and with integrity. As professional, engineers are encouraged to demonstrate the highest standards of honesty and integrity. Engineering has a direct and profound effect on the quality of life for everyone. Therefore, the services provided by professionals such as engineers require honesty, equality, justice, equity, and should be dedicated to the protection of health, safety, and the welfare of the community. Then, engineers must perform tasks under professional conduct that require adherence to the highest ethical principles.

The first of common fundamental is safety. Engineers must adhere to the basic principles of safety, health and welfare of others. Engineers must adhere to the code of ethics so that workplace safety such as disease prevention, injury and workplace hazards for all workers can be avoided. Therefore, with the existence of a code ethics which is under Board of Engineering(BEM) that determines and controls the conduct and morals of the engineering profession. Next, the second common fundamental is area of specialization. Engineers should carry out assignments or work only when qualified by education or experience in certain technical areas. Engineers shall not be required to confirm their signature on any plans or documents relating to matters for which they are less competent or proficient, and any plans or documents not provided under their direction and control. Engineers may accept assignments and be responsible for coordinating the entire project and signing and closing engineering documents for the entire project provided that each technical paper is signed and signed only by qualified engineers providing the work.

Lastly, the last common fundamental is honesty and integrity. Engineers should conduct all their relationships with high honesty and integrity. Engineers must admit their error if wrong and will not interfere with or alter the facts for their own benefit or for the company. Engineers will advise their customers or employers in the event of a project failure in any project. Engineers will not accept external jobs that may affect their work or interest. Before accepting an outside engineering job, they must inform their employer. Engineers should not attempt to attract an engineer from another employer with false or misleading claims. Engineers cannot promote their own interests at the expense of the dignity and integrity of the engineer's profession. Lastly, engineer should treat everyone with dignity, respect and without discrimination. In conclusion, mostly code of conduct has the same features or content for professional jobs as engineers.
