The Importance Of Second Amendment For America
Guns, guns, and more guns. Where would our nation be without them? The United States of America was found on our right to bear arms in order to protect ourselves from the tyrannical rule of the British Empire. Without our right to bear arms, we would not be a country today, we would be an empire controlled by the UK still. There would be no freedom, bald eagles would not exist, nor would hamburgers and French fries, all items that necessities that are required for everyday life in the United States that we know and love. The right to bear arms is important to keep around because not only is it part of the constitution in which our country was founded upon, but it’s still necessary for every day life.
Guns are mainly used for self defense, According to a Harvard University analysis of figures from the National Crime Victimization Survey, people defended themselves with a gun in nearly 0.9 percent of crimes from 2007 to 2011. While it can be argued that the chance of needing it for self defense is so rare we shouldn’t own guns, I’m a firm believer of better safe than sorry, and I would like to keep my ar-15 for self defense if I so happen to ever need it. It’s self-defense stories like these that often go unheard, instead the news media would rather attack the second amendment for things out of our control.
According to a news article, last year in florida “a heroic citizen with a permit to legally carry a concealed handgun was able to save countless lives in Florida Saturday when he shot a gunman who opened fire on a back-to-school event attended by over 150 students at a park in Titusville, Florida”. Did any of you hear about this at all? I think not, but think about what would have happened if the shooter was able to carry out his plans, we would hear about it for weeks on ends, just like we heard about the Stoneman douglas shooting.
Another point I would like to make is, these shooters committing mass shootings with guns all have an agenda to hurt people, they will do it with or without the second amendment. The Stoneman douglas shooter didn’t even acquire his gun legally on his own, so to say that the second amendment is at fault for the attack is not entirely correct. If not with guns, the preparator will find other ways to carry out their terrorist threats, whether its bombs, knives, or cars, so should all of those be banned too? No, its unreasonable to expect that. In conclusion, guns are used for self defense and can often times save lives. It’s unfair to take away the rights of many because of the actions of a few bad apples, the right to bear arms is as important to the average American as is apple pie, things that are necessary and important to American lives. I veto the motion to take away our right to bear arms, thank you next.
