The Injustice Of Racial Inequality

What is racial pre-justice? Racial Pre-justice is a dislike of a race-based group of individuals, with no intermediate knowledge or experience. Today it is all over the globe and pre-justice racially is increasing at a fast pace. 59% of Americans say being white helps a person’s ability to get ahead in our country these days. African Americans and white people have different reasons for why black people may have a harder time getting ahead than white people. African Americans believe that racial pre-justice plays a major role why they have a harder time getting ahead whilst white people think that its because of jobs and income.

The aim of the 'I Have a Dream' speech by Martin Luther King is to explain the injustice of racial inequality to the American public and to influence them to prevent racial discrimination. In his quote, “I have a dream that one day my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but the content of their character.” It portrays racial pre – justice and alerts people to his hope that one day we will be living in a society where people don’t judge other people by their race.

To kill a mocking bird was writing in the 1960s but was set in the 1930s in Maycomb country, Alabama, USA. In the book, racial pre – justice was just one of the many key factors in this book. It dealt with racist individuals and is set in a contexts where the mainstream hold racist views and minority group, African Americans. A vital scene from Harper Lee’s novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” that expresses a strong message to the reader is the episode were Calpurnia teaches scout a lesson about racial pre-justice. This scene reveals Harper Lee’s intention on not judging someone by their outer appearance. Calpurnia teaches scout a valuable lesson on not judging someone by where they have come from, rather who they are as a person. Lee reveals that Calpurnia’s grammar is as good as anybody else’s in Maycomb. This shows that just because Calpurnia is black, and a slave doesn’t mean she can’t be as educated as anybody else. The main idea of the episode is evident in the scene where Scout criticizes Walter on his name: “He ain’t company, Cal, he’s just a Cunningham – “. This is then followed by Calpurnia teaching Scout a valuable lesson on not judging someone by their outer appearance; “Don’t matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house’s y o’ comp’ny, and don’t you let me catch you remarkin’ on their ways like you was so high and mighty!” Through the eyes of Calpurnia and Scout, captures the idea of racial stereotyping and the ability of not judging someone by their outwards appearance.

Twelve angry men was written in 1954. It was set in Bronx, USA. It also has racial pre-justice in its novel and is woven deeply throughout the book.

People learn to be whatever they learn from their community and culture. We often believe that it requires parents to teach their children to be racist. The reality is that they willl be unless parents actively teach children not to be racists. We need to change that state of mind by teaching young children at school (kindergarten – year six) not to be racist and treat everyone the same. We need to have regular talks to the students and plant in their mind that it is NOT ok to discriminate people by their race. By doing that, hopefully we can change our society for the better.
