The Lessons We Can Learn From Anne Frank

The Diary of a Young Girl, also known as The Diary of Anne Frank is the real diary of a teenage girl which was kept by Anne Frank while she was hiding for two years together with her family. The hiding was from the Hitler and the Nazi. This book was originally published on June 25, 1947. This diary was found in the attic of the place where she was hiding. This diary/book was published by her Father. The original language which was used to write this book was the Dutch language. Later, it was further published in sixty-five languages. This diary is not only a great and emotional book but it also describes the history during the time of Hitler rule. Therefore, this diary is full of emotions and history. Between June 1942 and August 1944, from Anne thirteenth birthday until shortly after her fifteenth birthday, Anne Frank recorded he feelings, her emotions, and her thoughts, also as the events that happened to her within the diary which her father had given her as a birthday gift. She also talks about the lifestyle during that period. It describes World War II and the situation during it.

The diary begins on her thirteenth birthday i.e. on June 12, 1942, and it ends after her fifteenth birthday. At the start of her diary, she describes the teenage experiences of a typical girl. She also writes about her friendships with other girls and boys, and of course her imaginary cat friend. She also mentions her academic performances at school as well as she also mentions her family. After the Germans invaded Netherlands in 1940, the Franks were forced into hiding. With another family, the Van Daans, and a acquaintance, Mr. Dussel, they moved into a little secret annex above Otto Frank’s office. The employees of the office helped them throughout the hiding by providing them the essential supplies such as food, medicines, water and so on. The employee also informed them about the outside situation. In the diary, Anne writes about her experiences during the writing, so she mentions almost everything during the hiding. She also writes about her feelings such as a feeling of loneliness and isolation, describes her relationship with her family members and members of another family. She mentions that she loves her father, but she is not in close relationship with her mother as she criticizes her and scolds her. Anne thinks that her sister, Margot, is very beautiful and intelligent too, but she was not close to her so there’s less information about her. But she develops a relationship with Peter van Daan, the teenage boy in the attic. Anne writes her diary entries, moving from basic activities to the thoughts about humanity and her personal perspective during the hiding.

During the two years of hiding, Anne Frank describes all the situations of the holocaust. She describes all the difficulties and problems they had to face during the hiding. She represents the Jews people during the holocaust. In her diary, she finds it is difficult to understand why the Jews were being separated and persecuted. She even confronts her own identity. She wonders why the Dutch people have started to hate them and why they are killing them. She wonders why everyone were against Jews people and why her identity was being taken away from her. She writes about the hard times, in other words as “the horror of the holocaust”. This diary is not only a personal diary, but it is a book of history that describes the situation during the holocaust and World War II. From her diary, we can know about how the Jews people were treated, killed and kept as slaves. So basically, this diary covers the history and political scope during that period. Frank’s family was betrayed and later got arrested by the Nazis. Anne Frank’s father was the only survivor and later he published the diary as he thought that it was the only Anne’s wish. So, this is the only book written by her.

The diary ends without any entry on August 1, 1944 this is the only original book which talks about the holocaust. The main argument of this book was simply questioning about the Nazis, hate towards the Jews people, and so on. This book argues the political situation and represents the thought of the Jews people. The book’s main strength is its originality and its weakness is how it only describes the living of her family and not normally generalizes all the Jews people. Despite everything, Anne was an ordinary girl who was growing up and trying to survive the Nazis.

Anna was an ordinary girl growing up in hard times or “Horror” times. She was just like any other normal girl. She loved her life like we all love our life. She was not a superhero, she was a normal teenager who would do things that other teenagers would do such as going out, playing, and so on. She was interested in history and movie stars, Greek mythology, and cats, writing, and boys. She was very talkative. Anne went to school, had girlfriends and boyfriends, went to parties and to ice-cream parlors, rode her bike as a normal teenage girl would. She basically described her life through the diary. But this all happened before going into hiding. She cared about memories rather than materialistic things. The very first thing I put in was this diary, then hair curlers, handkerchiefs, schoolbooks, a comb, old letters; I put within the craziest things with the idea that we were going into hiding. But I’m not sorry, memories mean more to me than dresses. Therefore, she teaches us to worry about memories than all the materialistic things we’ve got. Her experience of hiding has taught a lot of other things too. There are so many life lessons which we can learn from her diary and from her. Through her diary, she shows us no matter what we all human beings are the same no matter what in case off emotions, fear, and so on. Her diary is very important as it explains to us about our ancient time or during the time of World War II. It reflects our history and ancestors. We can experience our history with the help of this diary.

Above all, it teaches us to have patience and be calm in our worst situations. It shows there is happiness after sadness. It also teaches us to be positive, happy and be hopeful because you never know when is the end. And the main important message above all is that every human should be treated equally, and has the right to live, love and have freedom despite skin colour, caste, religion, and so on. Despite of everything, she believes humanity still exists. Frank quotes “I keep my ideals because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.” I believe these are the main important lessons the book teaches us.
