Exotic Flora - The Most Beautiful Exotic Flowers

Exotic flora can take many shapes, and some of the most beautiful pieces of nature that this world has to offer comes in the form of exotic flora. All flowers and plants look very different, and flora look drastically different from region to region across the globe. In my opinion, some of the most beautiful exotic flowers are tiger lilies, orchids, and edelweiss. These flowers have incredible and unique details about them that make them so special.

Tiger lilies are native to the northern hemisphere and they come in a variety of colors and sizes. This type of flower is most commonly known to be a pale orange shade, but can also come in pink and white. These flowers thrive in full sun conditions and they need to be watered every other day so that the soil remains moist but not dry. Tiger lilies have five pointed tips that are curled away from the center of the flower, and there are two to three spikes that protrude from the middle. These spikes are called, stamen and pistils. They bloom after about 120-130 days from fertilization, and they flower around summertime.

Orchids are native to the southern Central America region, and they are very different from tiger lilies. Orchids will not survive in direct sunlight, and must be placed in indirect sunlight. Watering these flowers is also very unique because you have to “mist” them with a spray bottle every few days. If you water them the same as you would the tiger lily, the orchid will die. Since they are from southern Central America, these flowers prefer warmer climates, so keeping them in a warm room indoors is best for their survival. The flowers tend to bloom between 6 and 9 months depending on the luxury of its habitat. The shape of this flower is also very unique, and it has three shield-like petals that face upwards and to both sides. The middle of the flower tends to be a dark maroon or purple, while the shield-petals tend to be white or lilac.

My favorite flower is edelweiss, which is native only to the Swiss Alps in Europe. They are a beautiful white flower that has around ten fuzzy spikes that protrude out from the center in a circle. The middle of the flower contains multiple yellow circles that seem to pile on top of each other. Unlike the tiger lily and the orchid where only a few flowers bloom per plant, edelweiss blooms many times on a bush like plant. These flowers prefer colder climates and cannot survive outside of the elevation and temperature that is common on the tops of the Swiss Alps. If you were to grow this flower in your home, you would need to simulate a chilled environment that is significantly colder than your home. A unique thing about edelweiss is that its derivatives are used for sunblock and skin care, yet there are not enough edelweiss in the Alps to consistently produce a skin care line. When translated from German, “edelweiss” means “noble” and “white. ”

These three flowers are drastically different, from their size, color, shape, and their growing conditions. Although they are all flowers, everything about them is entirely different. They all require different habitats and climates and have special features that make them unique. These flowers are just three examples of the beauty of exotic flora, and there are many more examples that can be explored from all over the world.
