The Pursuit Of Happiness: A Reflective Essay
Happiness is a unique word. If you were asked to define what happiness is, you would probably have to put some thought into it. Everyone's perspective on happiness will be different. For example, a rich person's definition could be to have all best branded clothing and the most expensive cars. On the other hand, a poor person's definition could be to be able to have food for his or her family. As you can see these two examples are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I believe that it is the simplest things in life are the things that bring you the most happiness.
In my opinion, success is one of the things that bring me the most happiness. The feeling of being able to achieve a goal is like remembering the name of the song that has been stuck in your head for days. For example, I wanted to start working out in grade 10, but I would go whenever I felt like going. After a few months, I have seen no results at all and at that point I realized that I was not motivated enough. In grade 11, I set a goal and made a plan to follow. This time I was more motivated and in a few months time, I seen visible progress. From this ongoing experience, I have learned that you get the most satisfaction of your success from learning from your mistakes.
In this world we are always surrounded by other people and we often build relationships with many people we meet. We grow with each other and learn about each other and from each other. Over time I've built strong relationships with people in my life and just by looking at how much time I spend with the people closest to me, I have realized that healthy relationships bring happiness into my life. For example, when I was younger, I was really shy so I was never really close with many people but as I grew up, I realized that good relationships are very valuable and provide me with happiness. From then on I started to take more time and effort into a relationship and it had a positive impact on my life.
Happiness doesn’t mean you are happy all the time but instead, it means to have a good balance of your happy and sad times. The saying, “too much of anything is bad for you” applies to this situation too. For example, being happy all the time can cause you to be drained out and be even more unhappy.
