The Reasons I Am Worth Taking An Opportunity To Study Adult Nursing
My desire to study Adult Nursing was established from an extremely early age, I have always idolised my mum, and having several family members who are nurses for the NHS, has given me an insight into what it's like being in the hospital environment and knowledge of the responsibilities a nurse has, this has also given me hope that one day I can equal their skill, diligence and passion. The subject of Adult Nursing interests me because I believe it is a rewarding occupation with unlimited job opportunities, and it is a profession that will be in demand for decades to come.
The thing that interests me the most about the subject area is the fact I would have the opportunity to learn and develop so many skills within the job, nursing offers complex medical training, of which some are not dependant on machinery or equipment, but the nurse themselves. By studying nursing, my potential ability to save a life can be extrapolated to everyday scenarios, it would make me a huge asset to my family, the NHS, and society as a whole. Despite the challenges, nearly every nurse I have spoken to has many positive things to say about their profession- that it's honourable, worthwhile and a highly fulfilling way to make a living and learn life skills. I believe I have the right values and behaviours for the role of a nurse, being a caring, compassionate, competent and committed individual. As a student who has studied Health and Social Care at GCSE and currently at sixth form, this subject has given me a hands on insight in particular roles of health care professions and services, for example learning life saving techniques during lessons and in depth teaching of the human body. Furthermore, because I study Psychology and Health and Social Care I had the opportunity to take part in a Mental Health Workshop this gave me an insight into the reality of nursing, and reality of working with people who deal with mental health issues every day.
As well as being a full-time student, I have a part time job which has helped me to manage my time as a student. Working as a waitress for over a year, has widened my communication skills and ability to interact with people of all ages and in some cases adults with special needs and physical and psychological impairments. I was also a member of a netball team for 5 years and I then went on to leading sessions of netball in local primary schools during my Sports leaders level 1 qualification in sports leadership (QCF) and I have now completed the level 2 qualification. Playing netball for a number of years taught me how to gain respect for others, how to become a strong, resilient person, and allowed me to meet new people with similar interests.
This helped me expand my communication skills as well as working in a team, which comes useful in many tasks because I can work well with others, which is an essential skill for a nurse to have. I also enjoy reading in my free time, I believe reading is highly beneficial, giving me a wider vocabulary expansion and improved concentration. Also, I have completed the Coventry Building Society 'Employability' programme, this has taught me interview techniques, CV and Covering letter building sessions and communication skills, and I believe taking part in this programme will expand my skills for future employment and future interviews. After completing my A levels, my aspiration is to attend university to study Adult Nursing, this will be in important step which will contribute to my future career, so I can gain the degree I need to become a qualified nurse. Gaining a place at university would be a huge achievement for me after 2 years of A levels and it will also enable me to be one step closer to my dream career.
