The Themes In P.S. I Like You By Katie West

The book, P. S. I Like You by Katie West, is about a girl in junior high school named Lily Abbott. Lily absolutely hates chemistry class she has a notebook that she stores everything in, one day in chemistry Lily writes her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day she comes into chemistry finding someone had added onto her lyrics and left a little note, Lily and her unknown pen pal write to each other from then on and get to know each other, slowly but unknowingly Lily falls for her unknown pen pal. Lily doesn’t know if she can handle her crush, friends, and family all at once, but what if she starts her list of victims?

In the book, P. S. I Like You by Katie West, Lily Abbott changes throughout the story very much, in the beginning she was a very insecure and quiet girl, “I knew it was silly to feel insecure about what others thought of me, but I couldn’t help it. ”, she slowly changed writing with her unknown pen pal, and in the end she becomes a strong and confident lady, “Want to help me steal some keys from the front office after school so I can rescue the letter??”. Cade Jennings had also changed A LOT, In the beginning he was said to be an arrogant, mean, rude, and annoying jerk, “It’s like she possesses a force of energy that sucks the ball straight into her. A black hole. A magnet. Lily Abbott, the Magnet. ”, but in the end of the story he was a sweet, kind, loving, and a sweetheart, “I think there might’ve been a P. S. ”, “He brushed a piece of my hair off of my cheek. “I like you. A lot”. They both are very alike they just never noticed it through all their bickering, “Rare. What is rare? Meat”, “What are somethings that are rare?” “Meat?” “We’re more alike than you know”, this is something Lily said before she realized she really liked Cade, “Cade couldn’t be my pen pal. He couldn’t. Cade was an insensitive, selfish, arrogant jerk. He was not a funny, thoughtful guy with exceptionally good taste in music”.

The book, P. S. I Like You by Kasie West, I’ve thought of a couple themes but some may not be the best, “You claim you want to be heard. So you write your hollow words. You fill your life with deception. Because it’s all about perception. The world sees you one way. And they listen to all you say. You crave their attention. To feed your addiction. You have two side. Two faces. You’re trying to hide. In two places. And I hate you, Cade, because you’re the biggest jerk in the world and you should go away forever and stop writing me stupid letters where you pretend to be nice and misunderstood”.

In my own opinionated theme I think the theme would be somewhat like this: Many people may seem strong and unbreakable on the outside, but on the inside they can be weak, broken down, and even hurt. These are for the whole book: Sometimes someone unexpected can change you in a good way and bring out your confidence; Sometimes a bad start is a good start; Interests and indifferences can pull people closer; You can try to burn, fight or even bicker your way out of love but love is to rare to let go; There’s always a right time in a right place at the right moment. I would definitely recommend this book to romance genre lovers, because the book just pulls you in wishing yourself that you’d want that to happen to yourself. When you read it, it just makes you want to jump right in the story especially the parts of the book where you just wanna scream, and when you finish the book you just wish and wish for their to be a sequel and you want to read all her other published books.

When I read this book I immediately wished I was Lily Abbott but I realized my life could never be like that. Things I realized that me and Lily had in common when I read was, that we both have a big family, she has a rabbit and I have a puppy, we both hate chemistry, we both love music, Lily has a brother, Jonah, who is 8 and I have a little sister who is 8, Lily has an older sister who can drive and still lives with them and I have an older sister who can drive and still lives with us, Lily’s little brother, Jonah, can get away with lots of stuff and I have a little brother who can get away with anything and everything, Lily has really funny parents but she gets embarrassed by them and my parents do the exact same thing, her family adores her voice and my family also adores my voice, things can eat crazy on Thanksgiving for her and her family and same thing happens to me, Lily has an amazing bff and I have a couple amazing bffs, we both love to doodle and write random stuff and lyrics, we both have to cancel events with our friends due to our busy schedule, and we both do stuff for our parents just for the pay.
