The Understanding Of Suffering And Existential Atheism

Suffering is traditionally understood as an experience of undergoing in pain or hardship. Taking the path of philosophy generates meaningful explanations on how can we understand the phenomenon of suffering. The central theme of this philosophical paper is the existence of suffer that leads to existential atheism. This paper will give some meaningful arguments on how can we response to the distortion brought by some atheistic movement. This concept may allow us to know more if it is true or not, to believe it or not.

There are some points in this philosophical paper. First is to explain the mysteries that if God is all-powerful and all-good, why does he allow us to suffer. Second is the reality of suffer is a good reason for someone to be an atheist. Many people have been mystifying in the suffering we see in the whole world. There is a question that is often asked: “if God is all-good and all- powerful, why he allow suffering?” For some, this is not just a simple logical problem, but a deeply personal cry of despair, from intense human and personal pain.

To begin with, the first treatment is all about the human suffering. The killer pain, the stress that leads to suicide, a family problem and many more that brings most of the human person to turned away from belief of God. Few criticisms of Christianity are so emotionally charge or so relentless in their logics as the arguments against the almightiness and goodness of God based on the fact of human suffering “Either God cannot abolish evil or he will not; if he cannot, then he is not all powerful; if he will not, then he is he is not all-good”. Theologians have been offers a great number of solutions to this dilemma. But even the best of these solutions leave a great dark idea. In fact, suffering is not always dignify. Must God have created so much and such destructive first-order evils to produce compassion? We appear continuously faced with the necessity of pronouncing in extremis that it is, after all, "a mystery". The problem is of such important that we simply cannot be satisfied with a few rhetorically convincing forays signed off with the reminder that God's will cryptic.

I agree with Fr. Daniélou, “The question is fraught with anguish for too many sorrowful hearts to be lightly put off: we must get to the bottom of it.” From the begging of the bible, it is clear that God is all- good and all- powerful and there was no suffering. Until at the end, bible says that God is all-powerful and all-knowing, and the new creation, there will be also no suffering. But why then is there suffering now? What’s gone wrong?

Suffering is an experience if the characteristics of being if the evil anywhere is this whole world. There is a deep misunderstand that suffering that suffering always clearly and that it enhances human and spiritual values. “Too much suffering, especially when it is acute and protracted, can destroy these values by removing all meaning of life – sometimes foe the one suffering, and sometimes for those who witness it.”

The second treatment is about the suffering that leads most of the human person to turn away from the belief of God. There are many kinds of atheism. The atheism arises from different parts of the world. Humans are searching the God’s perfection in the world. But on the other hand God had made the world imperfect where suffering is existing. The origin of Western atheism lie in classical antiquity, in which first development a naturalistic and empirical explanation of the world already visible in Greece in the philosophy of the sophist of the second half of the fifth century B. C. , this replacement of divine by natural causation became much more pronounced in the later schools of Epicurean Materialism and Scepticism. It is not easy to say precisely why this occurred, and why the old mythological conception of the gods as the sole agents of creation should have declined so rapidly.

To understand Suffering briefly is task to do because it can lead us to better understanding of its mysteries that if there a God, why suffering is existing and truth that suffering is the good reason for someone to be an atheist. So to begin with, let us dwell first on the serious problem. Suffering that lead us to be an atheist. All pain is essentially ambivalent. Despite the strong tradition about its purifying role, it can just as easily destroy. Suffering is a complex study. Thus, makes us realized a lot of things. Suffering plays a very important role in every human existence. God created this beautiful and imperfect world with good and evil as a training for the love for him. We see that man’s only one is a perfect one so we don’t want to suffer. We are always searching for the things that will make us happy and that things that is only perfect. This is also the very first reason why we are questioning God’s existence. “When you pass through the water, I will be with you; and when you pass though the river, they will not sweep over you. When you talk though the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
