The Use Of Drones For Surveillance In USA
I believe that drones have their places in certain industries and the military. But I don't believe that drones need to be on every corner patrolling the streets trying to prevent crime. From 2010 to 2012 the border patrol agency flew 700 drone missions as favors for other agencies. These drones can produce images, video, heat maps, and track criminals. All of these qualities can be used against the people that they are meant to protect. When does a drone go from recreation use to being used against the people. I believe that drones are meant to be used to take fun video/photos. Or to kill terrorist from 1000 miles away. But they were not meant to be used as a type of surveillance.
A law passed in 2012 made drones legal for commercial use. This made it easier for police departments around the USA to get their hands on them. Police say that drones can help them in ways like mapping crime scenes sometimes aerial maps give investigators a birds eye view, search and rescue this can help police because drones can reach areas where humans can't and it can relay what it is seeing to the pilot. dealing with bombs and other hazardous material the swat team and bomb tech can survey the area from the air to see if there's other threats. These are all valid reasons but they can also be used to look onto your property and see what you are doing at all times.
Aerial surveillance in america would change our day to day life as we know it. i believe that rule and regulations need to be inplace so we can enjoy the benefits of this revolutionary technology without the government using this technology against us. Privacy advocates argue that the government will began a nationwide surveillance campaign because drones are cheaper that a human. Advocates and the government to be required to have a warrant be for the law enforcement agency can uses the drone or other unmanned surveillance. Having drones patrol public places is a breach of the fourth amendment protections with regard to the reasonableness of observing activities in public places. This means that police need to put a warrant application with sufficient evidence to prove to the judge that they have probable cause to use a drone. I believe that a law should be passed to limit the time the government has to use aerial surveillance on a specific individual. This would limit the time the drone can be used and would limit the government from using the drone to spy on other people.
