What Duty, Honor, And Country Means To Me

“This I Know” Duty, Honor, Country. An iconic farewell speech said by General Douglas MacArthur to the Corps of Cadets at U.S Military Academy At West Point in N.Y on May 12, 1962. Duty and Honor are the ideals of the United States Army. Sometimes the smallest acts of Duty and Honor can make a big difference in our country. The three words shall teach us to be rigid and proud while going through failures, but to be humble with success. As said by General Douglas MacArthur “These words dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, and what you will be.” Duty is defined as the social mores that binds us in thought. Duty is also something that is required by law by doing thing such as going to school, obeying laws, and paying taxes. My duties are going to school regularly and be on time, go to work, and give back to my community. Soldiers have very important duties. Their duties are to protect our country and to protect our allies. They also maintain, repair, and operate equipment. To me honor is being able to do something right and to better something without an obligation. Honor is adherence to what is right or to a conventional standard of conduct.

When I get a lower/ lose or win a gymnastics meet I always shake the other girls’ hands. I also always cheer on girls from other teams. Someone who is honorable has to live up to high principles. A soldier for example is very honorable. They risk their lives for the freedom and safety of our country. Honor is being able to do the right thing to represent your family, country, and yourself. To me the meaning of country is the teamwork of every civilian working together to better themselves and each other as a whole. To be able to overcome most problems without turning their backs on each other. In order for our country to be one and together, our citizens need to be honorable and have some duties. Our country has civilians put in hard work to be a soldier for our US Army. Our soldiers are some of the most honorable people that live up to some of the toughest duties. Our country is free and safe because of the soldiers and civilians hard work and dedication. All in all I'm proud to have the opportunity to live up to these ideals. I'm willing to put forth so much more effort for the welfare of our country. Without these three ideals we wouldn't be anything. We wouldn't be safe; we wouldn't be free; we wouldn't be a country. Working together I feel is the most important factor in keeping our country together. Our community puts forth so much effort to better our nation. They are helping our nation by either improving upon something we already have or creating a new idea or strategy to make things better for everyone. Yes we still have a ton of room for improvement, but not everything can be fixed in one day. It takes time and we are only growing as one. We don't let minor or major setbacks bring us down. We live through our setbacks; we learn from the setbacks; we grow upon our setbacks.
