What I Learned in Physical Education: From Basketball to Yoga

"What I learned in physical education" is the topic of my essay. Making physical education a requirement for both high school and college students can help students like myself become more educated on how important P.E. is and and stay physically fit; P.E. is not only about exercising and eating healthy but it also gives students a chance to learn about the benefits of exercising and how to live a healthier life. P.E. is very important and what we learn from that class can be used later on in life. I’ve taken P.E. at least 3 times and there are so many interesting things that people should know. One of the most interesting things I’ve learned is that physical fitness can have an effect on things such as how long you live, how strong your bones become and many other benefits that I probably would’ve never known if I hadn’t taken the class so many times I did. Even if students don’t want to take P.E. there are many other options like sports that also educate you on how to stay healthy and stay in shape. With P.E. being required you can learn about how it affects us, the benefits, activities we can do like walking, running, etc., better eating habits and so much more.

P.E. class helps students who know nothing about exercise and its benefits, a way to learn get free exercise, whether it be playing a sport or lifting weights. Additionally, to keeping students fit, P.E. also helps students with school and the work that comes with it. According to the CDDCP or (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) physical education have been proven to help with classes, increase test scores, and students’ focus - this argument can be used in how physical education affects your daily lives essay. Today, at places like my school, Kimball High School; If a student wants to play sports, whatever sport a student chooses to play would still get them their P.E. credit, which means that two or more seasons of a sport would be the equivalent of taking a year of P.E. This gives students the choice to either explore new sports and activities or to get involved in one or more sports they are interested in while still getting daily exercise.

By making P.E. a requirement, schools would be making sure that students get at least 45 to 60 minutes of exercise Which is the first step in being somewhat healthier. With P.E. being a required class this is also benefiting students who don’t have time or parents who can pay for gym memberships or take the time to make healthy food choices, or even be encouraging. When normal activities are included in the lifestyle of a student, it is possible for them to stay in shape. Physical activity and exercise can help to improve our body’s ability to absorb nutrients we need in the body. It can also help to improve and develop muscle and get rid of fat.

From my own personal experiences with the P.E. classes in the past, I believe that they have the potential of actually stopping the bullying that goes on around body weight and today’s beauty standards. Unfortunately, how people see us ties in with social, emotional, financial and our mental health. Most of the bullying that goes on today is because of weight. For example, what jobs people can get are mostly based on looks and looks are 9 times out of 10 goes with weight. Then when those people consistently get declined jobs, it then leads to social and emothi problems in the future.

One of the biggest problems in the United States right now is Obesity, which then leads to all types of bullying and negativity in both school and life; Which is why physical activity should be taught in high school and college. The repetition of P.E. being taught throughout 9-12 instills the importance of physical education and staying healthy. By teaching the importance of physical education schools could decrease the number of obesity and lower the chances of diabetes. Without P.E. classes I believe that the number of people that our obese or unhealthy would be even higher than it is right now! I believe we would also see a rise in bullying, which is a real thing. Also in current P.E. classes, the coaches need to actually be teaching and making sure every student is active. The year before I went to high school I would always get on my phone in class because the teacher wasn’t teaching; and this needed to change! Eventually it did and in Freshman year I had a stricter teacher who actually balanced being physically active and teaching me and other students how to be active. To prevent things like bullying, coaches should always teach students that everyone has different body shapes and are different sizes. Bullying isn’t good for anyone and also needs to be stopped. There is so much that physical education can teach us and I think more schools should be making its requirement. Students should also take P.E. serious and learn as much as they can if they do get the change to take P.E.

In conclusion to what have you learned in physical education essay, all schools whether it be an elementary, middle, high school, or college. It should be mandatory for students to take 1 or more physical education classes while in school. It has been proven every year that our world is becoming more and more unhealthier because, many students like myself are surrounded by things like unhealthy food options, bad influences, and lack of exercise. Everyone needs to be educated in physical fitness and education. By participating in physical education classes, students can gain knowledge from learning basic activities such as, how to, stretch, warm up, meal plan, exercise on a daily basis and make healthier life choices. If more high schools and colleges make P.E. a requirement, schools can help get rid of and educate adults and adolescents on our poor health choices that we continue to make everyday and how to live a healthier life.
