What Makes A Successful College Student
After having completed school education and saying, “been there, done that” we move to our next stop in life. Wait a minute; can we call it ‘a stop’? I don’t think so; in fact it’s a new beginning. All our perceptions about getting into the bigger league, those fears and those worries that come as a baggage are quickly washed away the moment we first set foot in college. We see hundreds of people echoing our sentiments and showing the same fear that we do. The fear of the unknown, that of the demons of ragging, whom freshmen call seniors, seniors who until a year ago were worried about similar things and kept telling themselves,” One fine day, we’ll have the chance of doing this to our juniors”. Frankly, ragging, if done in the right manner and taken in the right spirit helps to break the ice. I always believe that seniors can be valuable source of advice in one’s preparation to become a successful student. This brings us to our next question; what is it that makes a successful student?
The answer to this can be that person who manages to find the right balance between studies, extra curricular activities, sports and also the one who manages to find time to socialize. All these traits prepare a student to become a successful professional post his college days. To pursue a goal is important, but to implement the ideals is the most important aspect. As a college student, it is highly important that we manage to implement the right ideas towards achieving these goals. Students are as I mentioned busy with lots of activities and are unable to prioritize their goals. For them, all activities academic seem like an obligation rather than an important part in life. College life seems like that extended vacation post school exams, till one gets a rude awakening one fine day. The demands of college life can be extremely harsh. One doesn’t realize this till he learns it the hard way. Enjoyment is the bundle that comes along with the responsibility and demands of being a college student.
However, little do students realize that this is the part of life, which they would always remember and that it should be for all the good reasons that they should. Students always want to get over with it and move on and start earning. Quite rightly, if we look at it then we would echo with these sentiments as there is nothing wrong with it. One enters college at the peak of adolescence and moves out of it as a greenhorn in adulthood. Life introduces him/ her to various new aspects, some strange, some good, some bad and ugly. With every experience the person tends to learn and then draw valuable lessons from these experiences in future. We tend to under estimate the importance of our college education at times, saying that it would have been better had we learnt from some prominent institute or university. Well, quite frankly the counter to argue this predicament is that one only manages to get what he/ she deserves. We actually learn a lot from our college life; the only thing is that we don’t stop to realize how important the lessons learnt were.
It is only when we step out in the competitive professional world that we tend to appreciate all those things we learnt as a college student. Those hours that we spend with our friends in the college canteen, those minutes that we spend chatting away are always going to be those moments which we cherish for a lifetime.
