William Wordsworth And Pablo Neruda - The Representatives Of Romantic Poetry

When I think of poetry the first thing that comes to my mind is love, when one falls in love is like everything rhymes, everything sound perfectly put together, so much intensity, so many feelings, and especially so much passion. Through poetry words have more meaning and importance, they expressively deliver a clear and loud message, and most times is easy for one to relate to it. However when the end is close it can get confusing and disturbing, leaving you sometimes in suspense, not knowing what will happen, when or why.

Like everything else in this world, there are good and not so good poets, when Alexander Pope said “What was of thought, but ne’er so well expressed”, he was talking about those poets who have the ability of turning any common words into an unforgettable line, its like magic, like they don’t even have to make the least effort it just comes naturally to them. An excellent example of a wonderful man who was born with this gift is Pablo Neruda, my favorite poet. It was happened to me quite a few times, I read a poem and doesn’t really have any “fancy” words, like I call them, they are just a plain and simple line at the sight of one’s eyes, but when you read it out loud it sound magic and out of this planet.

The poem wrote by Pablo Neruda “If you forget me” has 4 lines which perfectly shows what Alexander Pope meant “ if each day a flower climbs up to your lips to seek me ah my love, ah my own in me all the fire is repeated” (lines 41-44) who doesn’t know those words? They are used every single day by millions of people, however Pablo had the power of making them into a beautiful poem that talks about keeping the love in a relationship alive. “The over flow of powerful emotions, recollected in tranquility.” (William Wordsworth) To me this phrase describes poetry at its perfection, because poetry is all about powerful emotions, feelings, and of course too much intensity, poets recollect all those emotions and thoughts in the tranquility of their quiet work spaces and transform them into amazing poems that will always be remembered.

William Wordsworth is actually one of my favorite poets too, and mainly the reason why I associate love with poetry, he was an amazing romantic poet and the person who initiated the Romantic Age. “Quiet Spaces” by Joseph J Breunig 3rd is one of many examples that shows how well poets work in tranquility. “In this quiet spaces, I become temporarily deaf to the meaningless noises that seek to define me” (lines 1-4). Those lines describe how Joseph felt empowered by the tranquility surrounding him and how he was able to make a poem out of his feelings towards it.

The majority of poets write their lines in peace and quiet, letting their minds run wild in look of inspiration. The most powerful emotions a poet can feel come from their freshly and calmed brains in a total silence, maybe in the dark.
