A Business Rivalry: Apple Vs. Android

Would you rather have a Pepsi or a Coke? Nike is awesome, but is Adidas better? Marvel or DC Comics, which one is cooler to you? These are just a few of the countless business rivalries in history. Someone once said “rivalry isn’t hate, it is a partnership in disguise. If you want to give it your all and be your best, you need a rival. Without one you wouldn’t be your best, you wouldn’t give it your all.” Apple vs. Android are the vivid example of this, they bring out the best in each other, and step-up their game every day to not stay behind in the daily race.

Apple is a company that characterizes itself from its begging for shaking things up, changing things, they see a better way of doing everything, and focus in the spirit they put into products, about the perfection in the machine. Their sales philosophy has always been about the affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of the interaction, their objective was that products were an extension of themselves for customers. This may be important to a lot of companies but for Apple in special, because their business model has it written all over.

Android characterizes for ensuring access to information, they develop new products at the speed of light, their seal is innovation. Their objective is to develop completely effective products with a broad range of prices which makes them accessible to millions of people. Apple and Android smartphones and tablets have always been presented as nemesis, when for the shock of many they have lots of similarities. Nowadays both of them are pretty easy to use, for example, both offer phone, video calls, high-tech cameras, excellent quality videos, touchscreens, presence of virtual assistants, worldwide clocks, calendars, the possibility to download lots of apps, it may be social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Just for mentioning a few of the immense range possibilities with both of them. There’s something that is for sure, and it´s that both facilitate communication worldwide. Overall, they are pretty similar, and as time passes by they manage to become even more similar.

Android products manufactures to a series of companies including Samsung and HTC, so it’s more than obvious than their business philosophy is quite different from Apple’s. Cost is certainly a difference factor between this two, Apple is considered “premium”, starting for the fact they only manufacture for themselves, they develop luxury products, that explains why their prices are not accessible to everyone, in contrast Androids go from pretty accessible prices with that feature not so good looking phones to ones that may be even more expensive than Apple’s such as Samsung S-class or the Google Pixel. Android is more of an “open” operative system, they let you use more options, Apple is more of a close circle, just like club. When talking a bit of security, let’s just say that Apple is more secure, because of the close circle.

With all this grueling competition, the winners end up being us the buyers; because we are always on the expectation of the brand-new product that is trying to overcome the last one, many advances in the technology world are due to this rivalry. And, in fact, there is not really a bad decision possible between both brands, each person is different and that of course is an important factor when deciding which device to buy. When we have such a high quality, the next step to consider is our subjective beliefs. However, the real important thing is not what “team” you belong to, but the amount of advances that we have nowadays, and the huge way technology has developed in the last decade.
