Always Keep Your Head Up
It was early August around 10: 00a. m. there's sweat pouring down my face. It’s tied game at the end of the 2nd quarter. Last year before a park and wreck my pawpaw told me to always work hard and do your best while doing and don’t stop until the play is over or you hear the whistle. We had little coaching before that game we played and we won the game and the whole team worked hard to win it. We played a very good team with very talented players that could have won if they had a few extra days to practice. The game was a very close one we almost lost!
The next practice the team started to goof-off and not do what we were suppose to do we talked and didn’t pay attention to what the coaches were saying. The next game we played we were winning 21-7 and we started to slack off and think we had the game in the bag but it was a few minutes after half time and the team started to get cocky and we let the other team have a lot of points we shouldn't have given them, but we still won the game played sloppy game. The next practice the coaches told us they were” happy with victory but not how we played”. They made the whole team do up downs, Bear Crawls, and we had to run.
The next game we played like we practiced we won that game against TCPS and I got two fumbles, three sacks, and a pass deflection that was by far my best game yet. After that we played a very good team in Holly Springs they had a very good offensive and defensive line, running back, and quarterback. Our team tried our best but we couldn't beat them. A few weeks later we played our team played a tournament it was supposed to be three teams but a few players on the other team had a wreck and the couldn’t play so we only played one team the way we played it was best two out of three. We won the first game lost the second and tied the third game we played along time it was about 6-8 hours. I really think I jinxed the team, after the first game my mom was holding the rings you'd get if you won. So I decided to see how many I could fit on one hand and I told my mom “That we have the game in the bag that team isn’t very good” and I started to get cocky and didn’t try my best on some of the plays and games. We went to play the same team and the same people and we started to lose 7-14 and my dad told me,”Don’t let them get to my head and do your best during every play.
Our coaches were infuriated with us and that made the team feel really bad about it, we had a lot of good players on our team, but the team just gave up because there was to much of of a different score difference I think it was 21-7, but we still had one game for redemption. The last game we scored first but we nearly threw an interception on the pass. We ended up tying that game 21-21 so we had to play onedrive and if you scored a touchdown and a two point conversion you would most likely win we scored and went for the two point conversion and we didn't get it. There plays they had fourth and short and they threw a pass and they scored a touchdown and they got the extra point and we ended up losing by one point.
After the game there was a ceremony for the rings and there ended up being enough rings for both of the teams to get one. We played a very good team and we learned new things and techniques. That year I learned that if you work hard enough do your best and play as good as you can do something you think you can’t you always need to do your best and never give up!
