Personal Statement on Global Warming: My Call to Action
Global warming is at its very worst right now, and there are plans for it to only get worse. This is something that everyone has been aware of for several years, but not enough people cared for there to actually be a difference. This is essay about global warming in which I'll briefly review this topic.
This all started in 1938, when a man tracked the Earth’s temperature over time and saw that the Earth is actually becoming warmer over time. This didn’t seem like it was anything harmful. In the 1940’s, the industry world skyrocketed and buildings were putting so much pollution into the air that it actually blocked the sun's rays and over the next 3 decades, the Earth cooled down. The 1950’s is when people started to realize that Earth’s temperature rising could actually be a bad thing, then in the 1970’s the Earth warms up again. By 1988, the Earth reaches its hottest year ever, and global warming isn’t stopping. In the early 2000’s we begin to experience some of the effects of global warming, such as fires, floods, and powerful storms. Now 2015 is on the way to be the hottest year ever recorded. If the temperature continues to rise 8 degrees, it could lead to food shortages, extinctions, and redrawing of coast lines. And this is just the beginning.
The worst part about it all, is that there are so many negative things that come along with global warming. It’s not just the Earth getting hotter so the weather is hotter, it causes deadly hurricanes, powerful storms, massive fires, and even floods. Global warming is destroying the biodiversity that we depend on as humans. It’s even throwing off Earth’s energy balance. Another issue that goes along with global warming is that the ice in the ocean is melting over time and leaving animals homeless with nowhere to go, and that ice that is melting is going up onto our land where there are homes and public places. Years from now, we will lose so much of the coast due to global warming.
Global warming is the first topic in this course that I actually care a lot about. The worst part to me about global warming is that humans are doing it to the planet and they don’t realize the extent of their actions. But they do understand where the Earth could end up. We belong to the Earth, the Earth doesn’t belong to us. It’s never too late to start doing your part and taking care of the planet.
To ne honest, I wish I could fix the Earth all by myself. We need more people to care. Some people don’t realize that global warming is even such a big problem, and they don’t care enough to realize that they are going to suffer the consequences too. We need to stop polluting and stop littering and start being nice to our planet.
