An Insulting Incident That Prompted Me to Be a Nurse Practitioner
To this stage of my life, I determined to be a nurse practitioner. “Why do you want to be a nurse practitioner?” is the best topic for my essay, so here I will share a huge truth that is hidden behind this path as my career. When I was growing up, I felt something extraordinary. I wasn't the same as other kids. Especially the time I came to know about gender identification. I wasn't like every other boy; my behavior was kind of girlish. I used to play with dolls with other girls in my area. I used to wear my mom's clothes and had plenty of friends. My life was going so well. I didn't face any problems in elementary school. However, my life changed when I started middle school. My friends started bullying me for my feminine behavior. For this reason, I wouldn't say I liked to go to school.
After finishing middle school, I started my high school where I experienced the same problems. Going to school every day was a nightmare. My peers used to call me derogatory names and made other harsh comments. I was tired of everything, was depressed, upset, and couldn’t focus on my studies. I started getting bad grades in my all classes. I wasn't ready to talk to my parents about my turmoil. I was feeling so lonely and hopeless.
Although I was so depressed, I made myself brave enough to research about the problem that I am facing. During this research, I learned a lot about homosexuality and many other phycological problems. I found out that I am getting interested to know more and more about all the biological and phycological knowledge. By the time, I realized that homosexuality is not a disease neither it is a mental illness whether it is a personal preference. After the consultation with a psychiatrist, I came to know more about it specifically which made me involved with biology even more. Consequently, I realized what kind of aspect of knowledge I am interested in.
During my study at Thomas Dale high school, for having a strong base in biology, I was offered to do a nurse aide course. Without giving a second thought, I immediately accepted the offer and then I decided what I want to see myself in the future. I heard about nurse practitioner from my high school. After researching about this path, I determined to choose a nurse practitioner as my career. I realized that I must pursue five years of college education and two years of experience. With the opportunity from Scholarships, I can easily reach my goal.
From this incident of my life, I found an intense interest in the health care profession. I am no more embarrassed about my sexual preference whether it helped me to choose my career. I know that getting a nurse practitioner certification and license will be challenging, but I am confident I have the ability and patience to be successful.
