Analysis Of Northwell Health Case Study

In the Northwell Inc. case study, I was able to diagnose an organization that had a lot of opportunities to succeed but faced a degree of management and strategic issues. Through this case analysis, I was able to observe and develop a clear understanding into Northwell’s current problems, learn about the company’s historical data, analyze their opportunities, benefits, costs, and strategic implications for the future, and propose a solution to correct their organizational deficiencies.

Northwell Inc. partnered up with Medichek a company that designs and manages websites to create a virtual medical product and services mall, Northwell had already been faced with many management and strategic issues. As far as management issues, Northwell was struggling with substantial employee turnover, dissatisfaction in the marketing and sales department, role clarity and poor job design for the research and development department, customer disappointments, managerial pressures from top management, and lack of collective vision. Change implementations need to be recognized by Claudia, CFO of Northwell and should be taking the necessary actions to support strategic renewal and achieve outstanding performance that were once before achieved.

Add strategic issues

From the reading we can see that Northwell faced many problems other than just management and strategic issues. I was able to determine some of the opportunities and benefits of developing the Internet site for Northwell as well. After a three-year research was conducted Northwell was told that their primary customers were either currently able to order and receive information over the internet or would soon be internet enabled. This was Northwell and Medichek opportunity to reach out, introduce and develop the new website to the company advantage by partnering up with Medichek whose primary business was to design and management of web sites for healthcare organizations would turn around some of the deficiencies Northwell was previously facing. Throughout the years Northwell marketed and sold its products primary through its own sales force as stated in the reading. They also have several productions facilities in US, Canada, and Mexico and other regional areas that produce medical products for many of the distribution companies that carries its Northwell line. Through much consideration and growth opportunities that could follow from creating the website the company as well as its customers could benefit from the Internet site resulting in greater marketing presence, distribution options, commercial transactions conducted electronically (e-commerce), customer communications, growth and profitability opportunities, customer support, customer interactions, sales increase and the overall enhance efficiency, speed, and efficacy of training and development. All the things that Northwell had been proved to be failing from and lacking as a company before Claudia and Nathan had uncovered this opportunity.

Although the opportunities and benefits of developing an Internet site could result in great outcomes important strategic implications should be in place as well. What are strategic implications of creating a internet site for Northwell and how to effectively start implementation with shared diagnosis (understanding view of the barriers to strategic implementation and outstanding performance).

One of the first things you need to do before working on an internet site in this case is to be clear about the organization’s goals, establish your goals as Northwell, Inc. Next, figure out the brands image entirely and the audience you are presenting yourself to. Who your audience is will play a big role in how the new Northwell and Medichek medical healthcare internet site will look and function. Once all the strategic implications are established the purpose of the internet site, goals wanting to be achieved, identity of your audience and the determined brand image can now proceed in the strategic implementation process. To combine all these elements together and achieve successful results you must have a clear direction, a direction that will guide each and every aspect of your strategic process towards common goals.
