Ashley was born in Granade Hills, California on April 19, 1968, to famous country song singer and motivational speaker Naomi Judd and Michael Charles Ciminelle, a marketing analyst.Following her parents' divorce at the age of four, Ashley moved with her mother Naomi and sister Wynonna to her maternal home in Kentucky. Her mother took up odd jobs in Califonia and Kentucky to raise money for their upkeep. As a result, Judd spent the first 13 years of her life traveling between the two states and attending 12 different schools. Some of the schools she enrolled in during the tour experience include Sayre School, Paul G. High School, etc.
She later graduated from the University of Kentucky where she majored in French and minored in anthropology, art history, theatre as well as women’s studies. However, she earned critical acclaim in 1993 for her role in a movie title ‘Ruby in Paradise’ where she was portrayed as a young woman who struggled to make a new life.
