Exploring the Biography and Music Career of World Star: Eminem

Eminem or Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born on the 17th of October 1972 in St. Joseph Missouri. His childhood was littered with struggles ranging from a broken home to being a school drop out. During his childhood, Eminem and his mother moved a lot. As they were always on the move he never got to settle down or find any friends. Finally, they settled a black neighborhood in Michigan. As a child, Eminem had few to no friends and was once bullied so hard he fell into a coma. At home his life wasn't much better, his father left him and his mother when he was only a couple of months and his mother was constantly on “medication”. She even forced him to take medications and convinced him that he was sick and that there was something wrong with him. His mother took in two girls, one of them being Kim his future wife and it didn't take very long until Kim was pregnant. Eminem was a very bad student and finished most classes with very low grades. Even though he had low grades in English he was very good with the language. He had a burning passion for learning new words and frequently studied the dictionary. Due to invalid absences, when he was going to have to retake the ninth grade for the third he finally dropped out at age 17.

He started working basic jobs with long shifts to try to provide for his family but found time to start his own rap crew by the name of “D12” which is where his rap career started.

Eminem's first real rap job was with his rap crew D12 were he was the lead singer. Even though the crew had many problems Eminem had already started to gain a following and he was beginning to make a name for himself in the new upcoming genre of hip hop through his alter ego, Slim Shady.

When Eminem came second in the freestyle branch of “rap Olympics” he was spotted by the legendary rapper and music producer Dr. Dre. Dre was so impressed by Marshall's talent that he went home and listened to his record “The Slim Shady EP”. Dr. Dre later contacted Eminem and offered to sign a deal with him, a chance that Marshall going to give up. As he accepted the deal Eminem had to move to California to work wich pulled him from his family who was starting to fall apart. Two years after moving he released “The Slim Shady LP” through Dr. Dres record label. The sales naturally skyrocketed due to Dre's involvement. Eminem's new album featured a mix of childish humor and violence, something that no other rapper had done before him. His new flare is what I believe got so many people interested in his music. Coming back from having his family shattered he released his second ever studio album in 2000. The album was called “The Marshall Mathers LP” and featured an array of feelings portrayed through the different songs. Eminem was criticized for the album with a lot of people saying that he was both homophobic and a misogynist. Something that he hoped to display taking distance to by performing a duet with Elton John. Since then Eminem has made music about his life and his feelings, eventually developing to be an independent artist.
