Death Penalty Doesn't Deter Crime

Why do people think that taking another person from this world by inhume torture is good? There has always been an argument that could affect somebody’s else life because people believe that if somebody takes a life there’s should be taken as well, but the death penalty should be illegal because it’s expensive, it doesn’t deter or prevent crimes, and there is no humane way to kill. This is death penalty doesn't deter crime essay in which I will share some strong arguments why death penalty doesn't work.

One of the reasons the death penalty should be illegal because it’s expensive. The death penalty is very expensive because the trials cost so much. The attorney and the defense spend a lot of time researching the crime. It takes much more time, effort, and people for the research and investigation. An article by Chammah says, “A report found that the Attorneys for the defendants facing the Death Penalty spend an average of 1,889 hours per trial”. This quote is saying that the death penalty trials spend more time on a trail for the death row. Over the past 30 years, the death penalty cost has risen $2,000,000. Sometimes if a person is on the death row it could cost 10 times more than the average person in jail. Housing prisoners for the Death Row could cost up to $40,000 per year where regular prisoners could cost up to $24,000. If somebody were to commit a homicide then it could cost up to 200,000.

The drugs have become harder to get each year, an article by Hennseey-Fiske says that “A year ago it cost the Texas Department of Chemical justice $83.55 for the drugs used in the Death Penalty to carry out an execution. Capital punishment causes tax-payers to pay more. By increasing taxes, cutting services, and funding can help pay for the cost of the Death Penalty. An article by Amadeo says, “Louisiana spent $15.6 million each year to keep and maintain capital punishment, which is an unnecessary amount that we could be using to do other things with”. The death penalty is expensive because it takes more time, effort, and people. It had risen over the years and could cause taxpayers to pay for it. It is an unnecessary process that doesn’t need to be done because of its expenses.

The second reason why the death penalty should be illegal is that it doesn’t deter or prevent crimes. Over the years researchers have learned that the death penalty doesn't help save lives and it is an inefficient system to use. It uses resources that could help in crime-fighting measures. From an article called A clear scientific consensus that the Death penalty doesn't deter crime states that “Scientists agree by an overwhelming majority, that the death penalty has no deterrent effect. They felt the same way over the past ten years and nothing has changed.” This quote is saying that scientists even agree that the death penalty has no effect on the crime ratio. Even though criminals murder people and get the death penalty doesn’t mean it will deter crimes. The murder rate is still very high and will continue to go up. Since capital punishment been established the murder rate gone up since capital punishment. The death penalty has not lowered homicide rates because most people that commit homicide commit them because it is a crime of passion and some people enjoying killing (a clear scientific consensus that the Death penalty doesn’t deter crime). Certain cases of the Death Penalty has been causing more homicide cases rather than preventing them. Some states that don’t have capital punishment have a lower and better homicide rate. Each year about 1 quarter of people on death row are executed which wouldn’t be fair if people after them have committed much worse. By putting the death penalty in progress it shows that it hasn’t had any benefits but instead put the liabilities on the people that are in charge of the death. Instead of preventing crimes it causes more life of the innocents. Yet criminals have failed to understand the punishment of the death penalty and its cruel ways (a clear scientific consensus that the Death penalty doesn’t deter crime). Sometimes and experts opinion doesn't matter because their opinions have the same say as the average consumers. There is no positive look at the death penalty. It doesn't deter crimes which having it isn’t helping anything. The death penalty should be abolished because killing criminals isn’t doing better in the world. By the pubic review saying that it should be legal is saying that they would be able to kill whomever they want.

The last reason why the death penalty should be illegal is that there is no humane way to kill. The death penalty is a curl punishment and requires humane torture. An article The Death Penalty: Questions and Answers states “Don’t murders deserve to die? No one deserves to die when the government metes out vengeance disguised as justice it becomes complicated with killers in devaluing human life and human dignity.” This quote is saying that the death penalty is taking away human life and human rights. A large number of innocent people end up dying for something that they didn’t commit. If capital punishment is taking somebody’s life away they need to be sure that they have gotten the right person. There are five methods of execution and they all require human torture. The first method of execution is the most common and it is the lethal injections. Lethal injection is where there are three drugs mixed together. The first drug is sodium thiopental or sodium pentothal it puts the prisoner unconscious. The second drug is pancuronium bromide it is a muscle relaxant that paralyzes the diaphragm and lungs. The third drug is potassium chloride it causes cardiac arrest. The second method of execution is electrocution. It’s where there criminal is seated on a chair, which is made out of oak, and an electric current shocks you till your dead. The third method of execution is lethal gas. The prisoner is restricted around his/her chest, waist, arms, and ankles. Cyanide pellets in a container are mixed with sulfuric acid that is on the floor in containers. When keys are turned the cyanide container opens and mixes with the sulfuric acid. Those two mixed make a solution which is then the lethal gas. The fourth method of execution is hanging. Hanging involves a rope covered with a wax or soap to secure that the rope doesn’t break. The rope is tied to a metal t-shaped bracket which takes force when the offenders drop. The fifth method of execution is the firing squad. The firing squad consists of three six-shooters. Each prisoner is kneeled down or kneeled down on the opposite side of the condemned. The shooter aims at the cheat and fires it causing great vessels and lungs to rupture and cause the prisoners to have a stroke or hemorrhage. All five methods of execution are the inhume ways that somebody could be left to die. Most people that are sentenced to death or on the death row have mental illnesses. People that have a mental illness should be helped not kept to be killed for years.

To end up, the public review doesn’t think that the death penalty is best because agreeing to it means they are fine with killing people, which isn’t the state’s right. In some states, the death penalty is already illegal because only a small amount actually gets executed rather than all the criminals. Out of 50 states, the death penalty is only legal in 29. The death penalty is an unuseful process with humane torture and inhumes ways to kill.
