Development Of Atheism

Atheism is a disbelief in the existence of God or more strongly affirming God’s non-existence. They reject the existence of God because of lack of evidence like those of empirical which can be experimented. Also atheism can mean denial of god, this definition can be traced from Greek traditions when they accused Socrates not to be pious to their god. But also Christianity were accused to be atheist by Romans because of refusal to adore a Roman god. In our contemporary time, atheism is caused by many reasons, some of this reason is the rejection of metaphysics, and people nowadays believe that science can provide a good life and no need of going for metaphysics as Karl Pearson put. Modern man is not interested in with metaphysics and this has made it to become unpopular because of the irrationality thinking of the ultimate reality of it. In metaphysical sense we use reason to discover the ultimate telos or end, but now the reason which they are using is for discovering the happiness and pleasure of an individual man as it is for historical liberalism, others use reason as a concern with the means of production and maximization of profit as technical reason for the case of capitalism. Others use reason for bringing a harmony between a historical liberalism and capitalism, where by reason is used as a planning reason, hence for modern man reason do not reach to the end of the ropes.

Modern man views metaphysics as a thing which is not concrete and it is an abstract concept. Man is worshiping epistemology in order to fill the void left where people is concerning with the finding of how much you can know before actually starting knowing and believing that philosophy is nothing more than an experimental science. Philosophy is a collection of many sciences where by science has managed to solve many problem as the result man do not go to God but has turned from God to nature. Man is worshiping the nature and reason is not used to discover the Supreme Being who is God, the reality of all like the way St. Thomas Aquinas used to discover this reality and proved through his well-known five ways for God’s existence. These are evidence from motion, argument from contingency being to a necessary being, argument from causation, argument from perfection and teleological argument which modern man ignores.

Nature which modern man is concentrating seems to be burning against him or her where science is concentrating in inventing the atomic bomb which include nuclear bomb and hence increasing a war which starts from individual ego and manifestation of it lead to the destruction of goodness of man. What Christians attributes to grace, a modern man has attributed it to sex, alcoholism and escape from all duties of the marriage and family, where deliberately chooses senses to get in touch of what can solve the problem encountering man. They rarely live on the intellectual plane, but inhabit a world of sensuous love, war, and bullfight while within himself or herself a radical tension is higher and needs some kinds of sublimation and deliverance.
