Dreams and Aspirations: the Path to Success and Fulfillment
Humans have long been studied, we are unique because of a few physical features that allow us to dominate other creatures. However, we are also very distinct and discrete from other living organisms because we have the ability to dream and long for something in a hopeful gist. How do these dreams and aspirations affect the human race? The answer may vary upon individual because there are two sides, the good effect and the bad effect.
To understand the humans and their aspirations, one has to know what a dream or aspiration is. A dream or aspiration is “ defined as [the] ability to identify and set goals for the future” (Sizer 125). It may seem like it is not a big deal, but it is. It’s not like you shut your eyes and it comes to you. This type of dream is when someone feels something deep inside them and they can picture it happening. It’s much more meaningful than a dream you see when sleeping. It’s an ambition for you to do something in your real, awake life.
With the definition of dreams and aspirations being known, the effect should be known. It could cause a fortunate affect. “ According to this view, true happiness entails identifying one’s virtues, cultivating them, and living in accordance with them. ” (Aristotle 2000). According to Aristotle, true happiness is achieved when someone has something to believe in. Dreaming is truly believing it’s going to happen, and acting to do everything to help it on its course.
However, dreams and aspirations are not all good. They have a dark side, as well. Because “Dreaming is not paying attention. ” (Sizer 125). Dreaming can also cause us to miss something that could have actually helped. It can also cause one to only work and look in one way. It closes doors and, ultimately, when that one door crumbles down, depression follows. It could have all been avoided if they would have not dreamed so much.
Dreaming is not to be feared. “ Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion. ” (Trump Untapped Possibilities for Wealth 2009). A dream requires passion to pursue it. Without passion there are no dreams, and without dreams there are no chances of success. Without passion and dreams, nothing would get done because the effort would not be there. The cycle of passion and dreams was evident in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. Lennie and George have no home and no money. However, they put the passion in to have a dream, and they have some success, because they’re living. Dreams have their goods and their bads as everything does. They can rail road you or they could propel you forward. Dreams should not be feared, they should be harnessed full-heartly and trying and living in coordinace with them.
