Educational and Career Goals in the Field of Computer Science
My primary research interests are the part of my educational and career goals that I will share for this essay, examples are given in the fields of software and app development. The motivation behind my research is a strong desire to bridge the gap in the health sector of developing countries with limited access to specialist medical practioners and consultants.
My research specially focuses on deeveloping new computing solutions to solve real-world problems pertaining to health and global social development. Health care is an information and knowledge-intensive enterprise. We are approaching an era where health care providers will need to rely increasingly on information technology (IT) to collect, manage, store, and circulate health care information and knowledge. Many studies have showed deficiencies in the current health care system especially for developing countries, including inadequate care, incorrect care, extreme inefficiencies and hence high costs, and inequities in access to care. Any effort to change the medical and health information management standard from one paper based system to one technology inclind system must address two basic challenges: short term goal being the use of the best technology available today to develop and deploy systems and long term goal of identifying the gaps between the best of today’s technology and capabilities or potentials of future system to improve health care. My research addresses both the challenges with emphasis in developing a robust system to effectively improve health care in developing world.
I found myself extremely inspired by the current condition of the poor health care in developing countries. This sometimes has been due to high rate of unemployment and poor infrastructure to effectively cater for the people. With my research, I am certain I would be able to empower qualified medical practitioners and patient an efficient platform to be accessible and provide consultation at ease. Working on a health care information system is largely interdisciplinary which would include members with expertise in fields such as databases, security, networking, human-computer interaction, large-scale system deployments, and physicians who have worked with information technologies. I believe the key to success is through constant communication and collaboration with domain experts from different areas as well as industrial practitioners.
Educational and Career Goals
People have different reasons for furthering their education. My foremost reason for continuing my education is, I want to learn new things and for self improvement. New ideas and solutions to problems are developed everyday through technology. I want to be part of this revolutionary generation to develop solutions which won't solve problems for today but also for that of the future. There's is an untapped stream of problems that needs solution providers especially in the developing countries. Typical example is in my area of research, where there is high demand for a solution that helps improve the healthcare system and socio economy sector.
After undergraduate school, I have worked and exposed myself to different experience in technology which includes networking, software and hardware maintenance, development of website and web application. My proudest experience so far, being the development of an operational visitors management solution(iXign) which is being used by corporations in Nigeria. This has also lead to the birth of a tech start-up which I intend to diversify into a core solution provider across different spectrum.
My long-term goal is to fundamentally improve the quality of living by providing suitable and cost effective computing systems that addresses real-world societal challenges. Designing usable systems in the real world, especially in the global developmental context, raises a wide range of hard research challenges due to unique contextual factors and ground realities.
Conclusion
From the application aspect, I plan to work with practitioners and continue designing systems for various applications. This way, my research hopefully can be quickly transferred to technologies. I am certain, furthering my education in computer science from the University of Saskatchewan will positively help me in the actualization of my goals to provide suitable software solutions and improve the impart of technology to humanity in developing countries.
