Feminists' and Nonfeminists' Attitudes Toward Men
The main argument in this article is whether or not feminist are men haters. The goal of this article was to compare feminist and nonfeminist attitudes towards men. The article focuses on the hostility feminists have towards men along with the male-female relations. The researchers explored different ethnic variations to conduct the study. It shows that those who call themselves feminist today are more focused on bashing men than they are the true meaning of feminism which is equality.
This article fits into my research project because it supports the fact that our society today has reconstructed the true meaning of a feminist. With the content discussed in this article it will help me support my argument about feminism in today’s generation. This article helps prove that the stereotype of feminism in society today is not just a stereotype but it’s a fact.
[Bardsley, A. (2006). Girlfight the Power: Teaching Contemporary Feminism and Pop Culture.Feminist Teacher,16(3), 189-204.]. This main argument of this article is how a college professor taught a class called "Girl Power and Beyond: Third Wave Feminism and Contemporary Popular Culture." This class wasn't just about pop culture but included the topic of "third wave" feminism. The professor thought that the class would gain interest and she would be able to ease into pop culture because the subject of feminist today has such a negative association. Some of the topics include female punk music and literature.
The point of this article is to show the connection with modern day feminists and their views toward pop culture literature such as girly magazines and the attitudes it provokes. This article fits into my research because it shows the connection between feminism and pop culture literature.
This source was not as informative as I had hoped it would be but it did offer some interesting view points. There is some useful information about the attitudes towards Barbie and Powerpuff girls, and music by Madonna and Missy Elliot. This article has not changed my views about my argument because it shows the influence that pop culture does have on the feminist movement whether it be positive or negative.
[Davis, J. (2017), January 27). How Did Feminism Get Hijacked by Man-Haters. Retrieved June 03, 2017, from https://heatst.com/culture-wars/how-did-feminism-get-hijacked-by-men-haters/ ] This main argument of this article is about how the meaning of feminism has changed over time and the unfair way men are treated by modern day feminists. Feminism used to be about equal pay and equal rights. Now it seems to be being about hating men and ending patriarchy. The point of this book is to shed some light on how women are treating men and that a few bad men should give all men a bad name. Women need to rise above and move past their bad experiences with men and empower themselves.
This article fits into by research because it talks about how the true meaning of feminism has changed over time. There is useful information in this article that will help me prove my argument about modern day feminists. This article has a great video that will support my argument. I think I am more convinced that today's so called feminists have completely strayed from the true meaning.
[Debney, B. (2012). Feminism and class solidarity. Industrial Worker: ProQuest, 109(2)]. This main argument of this article is about how feminism is viewed in our society today. It is not viewed in a positive light. Anti feminists talk about feminism being established for many reasons from allowing unattractive women access to mainstream to feminism not being about equal rights for women. This article talks about moral disengagement. Anti feminists convince themselves that harmful behaviors against others are reasonable, shifting blame on the victim. The point of this article is to disagree with the views of anti feminists.
This source will be beneficial to my research because it will show how so many women are on opposite sides of the meaning of feminism. This source was not as helpful as I had hoped it would be but did open my eyes to another point of view. It also confirms that there is a big problem in society and how feminist are viewed today. My views on my argument still stand.
[Feldman, M. (2016)). Undutiful daughters: Growing up in feminism and psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society, 21(3), 232-241].This article focuses on two pop culture figures who have interesting views and comments regarding feminism. This articles main point is to show how much pop culture does influence others views and puts ideas in people’s heads about matters regarding feminism. The two public figures were Lana del ray and Sophocles Antigone.
This article focuses on the younger generations which they refer to as “undutiful daughters.” The point I feel the author was trying to get across is how much pop culture today affects ones opinions and views. This source is very helpful for my research because it helps answer my question concerning whether or not pop culture has contributed to the feminist movement losing its true meaning.
The article talks about how just because those two figures have their own view about feminism doesn’t mean we have to follow their lead. Identifying yourself as a feminist is something that as an individual should decide. Everyone will agree and disagree but the reason why the true meaning of feminist has changed is because this generation is so quick to believe in other people’s views over what they truly feel.
[Martin, A. (2016, September 14). Understanding Antifeminism. Retrieved June 03, 2017, from https://mnwomenscenter.wordpress.com/2015/04/06/understanding-antifeminism/]. The focuses of this article is to let readers get a better understanding of antifeminism. The main argument addressed in this article is the concern of the third wave antifeminist and how they resort to attack others opposite of their beliefs through social media. The author of this article is a strong feminist and she is one who has the view of hating men. She states how she wants to better understand antifeminist and why they feel the way they do. The article makes it clear that she doesn’t dislike them for their views but she is concerned of how some antifeminist are bully over different media sources.
The purpose of this article was to let the society know that it’s okay not to identify as a feminist but that doesn’t mean they can’t believe in feminism. This source provides a lot of great point for my research. This article talks about both being a feminist and antifeminist. But it also does a good job at showing how pop culture plays a role in the views the younger generations develops about feminism.
Things are perceived in many way and social media is the first to twist words and cause a lot of controversy with this topic. One thing that this article did was opened my eyes to how crucial social media is when it comes to topics such as feminism. Social media has taken over this generation and has also been a contributor to the reconstruction of feminisms true meaning.
[Swirsky, J. M., & Angelone, D. J. (2014). Femi-nazis and bra burning crazies: A qualitative evaluation of contemporary beliefs about feminism.Current Psychology: A Journal For Diverse Perspectives On Diverse Psychological Issues, 33(3), 229-245]. The focus of this article was to identify potential barriers that influence women’s association with the feminist movement. Throughout this study the researchers identify four different possible reasons as why women choose not to associate themselves with feminism.
The reasons are the negative meaning that is connected with the term “feminism,” the dichotomous nature of the term, belief that feminism is unnecessary in our society today, and experiences with women especially those of minority. The article further discusses changes that can be made to the feminist movement. I found this source to be extremely helpful to my research.
My focus of this project is about the true meaning of the feminist movement and how those today who call themselves feminist are totally contradicting the meaning. This article talks about the different reasoning's that affects ones choice to self-identify as a feminist. This helps shape my research argument regarding the changes that should be made about the feminist movement. This article confirms what I already believe about feminists today.
