Finding Your Calling: The Right Career Path For You

After both the struggle and fun experiences your high school life had brought you, another chapter is waiting for you. The decision in finding the right path where you should go is the next in line. Opportunities are undoubtedly innumerable at this moment of your life. Doors are non-stop opening their way for you. But the thing is, where should you go? How should you find your right path? We understand how excited and doubtful you must be feeling. It may sound paradoxical to feel such contradicting emotions at the same time, but it is understandable. And it is okay to feel that way — no need to worry. However, you should not stay confused as time is running. You need to make a final decision. But how?

There are so many things you need to consider and so does the University of Alabama. They have a variety of exciting degree programs where you can freely choose. It is not only practical courses which will surely help you as soon as you graduate. But more than anything, they offer holistic development and an entirely new experience of learning.

Before indulging on that, here’s another bonus for you. If you are still confused and have zero ideas on where to go, then no worries. There are just some considerations and assessments you need to look deeply to yourself.

Know Your Talents

Find your passion. Assess yourself and know which field you may fit. More than being good at it, do you enjoy doing it? Then, that can be your passion. As to how elders quote, “Do the things you love, and you will never work a day in your life.” That’s pretty true. When you enjoy what you are doing, you lose track of time. As a result, it doesn’t feel like working at all. A time well spent is a time not wasted. After all, learning should be fun. Thus, better know where you are good at and cultivate more of that talent for a better cause.

Your Goal

What could be your goal? What could be the one you want to achieve? Do you want to help people? Do you enjoy imparting your knowledge to those who need it? How about travel? Do you desire to explore different places and cultures? How about impact? Do you wish to make a social contribution someday?

That is just a few of the questions you need to ask and clarify to yourself — the goal you wanted to achieve. You may already have it right now, or it could be you are still on the process of identifying it. You don’t have to worry. Sooner, you will encounter something which will bring you to a realization of what matters to you.

Find Inspiration

This is not a love interest. Finding inspiration is finding someone who already successfully achieved your goal. Learn from that person. It could be an individual who is currently enjoying the things you aim to enjoy in the future. It could also be someone who has the characteristics you genuinely admire as a person. If you can have the opportunity to be close and learn more about them, then it is a better idea. Finding a person who works in that same field which you wanted to belong someday is a bonus. Through that, you will be able to get heads on about the area.

If you are someone who has no single idea on what field to take on, still you can find people. Find people with different careers and ask them about their jobs. A quick interview or a casual conversation with these people will help you find what you truly want. Try to ask questions about what they do and try to assess yourself if you wanted to do the same. By doing so, you will be able to come up with your final decision.

Listen To Other’s Suggestions But Listen More To Yourself

While there are numerous suggestions from other people, listen wisely. Asking opinions from your loved ones, friends and people who matter to you is a good way. However, don’t get too carried away by their recommendations. Don’t choose to walk on a path just because everyone is telling you that’s the best for you. More than anyone else, YOU know what’s best for you. Figure that out.

Change Is Inevitable

The only constant thing here is change. Thus, what may be a trending job today may not be the same most sought-after job the moment you graduate. You should not choose a career path based on its demand. While it is practical, but then change is inevitable. You have no control over the future.

Conclusion

Finding our calling can be a tremendous task. It is not something that can be learned in school. We have to see it on our own. Unfortunately, today, people are slowly associating ‘right path’ with distorted definitions. Although we have different views about that, generally people sight a right path parallel with financial prosperity. While it is true that becoming rich is one of the goals, who doesn’t want it? Nevertheless, the true essence of it is vanishing.

Thus, in finding the right path for you, you should never settle. Do not pay attention to what society thinks and expects from you. The right track is the one which keeps you moving forward. The right path is the one which makes you happy and motivated. And we may have our own different versions of ‘right paths’. Acquire that.
