How Philia Is Built Through Comradery, Loyalty And Unity
The topic that I choose to research for project three is going to be philia or deep friendship. I want the audience to understand how philia is built through comradery, loyalty and unity. I would concentrate on the topic of how brotherhood is portrayed in the military. I would go more into detail by exploring a person’s perspectives and psychology of how a person interacts with one another to form a bond. Also giving an unbiased and generalized idea of how being in the military will re-socialize each personnel for different demands of military employment.
I narrowed down my research on this topic because brotherly love is the most underrated value in this generation, and not knowing the value of a true friendship. This research is very interesting to me due to how biology and psychology plays a big role in love. I started this research with Google search to give me a wide variety of ideas. I didn’t just concentrate on military and philia, but I considered the different kinds of love to have an oversight of what makes love so interesting. Throughout this research I had questions about how friendship and/or love has so many intricate points? Why is some friendship fails and why some friendship last forever? Why is loyalty, or trust, or consistency is very important in friendship and/or love? Why a simple” hey” or “hi” could potentially lead to a friendship? What positive and negative impact would affect knowing someone to a personal level? Also, I found a lot of interesting books and articles at the UNLV library. Since the essay only requires 2 UNLV sources and 1 outside source, the sources that I chose, covered different points that are going to help me construct my essay. In the book “Eros, Agape, and Philia: Readings in the Philosophy of Love” Alan Soble examined and designed a dialogue about the three traditional philosophical love. In section 2, Perfect Friendship by Aristotle, I will describe the correlation of good, pleasant, and useful friendship.
In the book “Love, Friendship, and the self: Intimacy, Identification, and the Social Nature of Persons” Talks about a concept of person as social beings, who can deliberately achieve worth of pursuing of what the group has import on. I am going to use this information by focusing on the role that relationships of love and friendship have both in the initial formation of ourselves and ongoing development of adult person.
In the movie “Transformers, 2007” I am planning to explain with this movie in my paper the camaraderie of the Autobots between an innocent boy. Showing how friendship is formed through trust and duty. Soble, Alan. Eros, Agape, and Philia: Readings in the Philosophy of Love. New York: Paragon House Publishers 1989Alan Soble’s book represents three major traditions in the philosophy of love-Eros, Agape, and Philia. Soble explore the state of love today as seen through the eyes of three ancient Greek philosophers; Aristotle, Plato, and Paul. He designed a dialogue among the three traditions in genuine philosophical style. Also, he explores the relations between the sexes that illustrate the difficulties of love.
Alan Gerald Soble is an American philosopher and author of several books on the philosophy of sex. He taught at the University of New Orleans from 1986 to 2006. In his early careers, Soble wrote papers about ethics and epistemology. Also, he began to help articulate the specialty of the philosophy of sex, becoming one of the founding scholars. He is currently a Professor of philosophy at the Drexel University in Philadelphia. The chapters in this book are an analysis of books with credible authors that could easily serve a drafting and revising on student’s own process of writing. This book has multiple clear stated thesis that people could discuss with each other. I can use this book because it can give me a short but detailed information on concepts of love. Helm, Bennett. Love, Friendship, and the Self: Intimacy, Identification, and the Social Nature of Persons. Oxford University Press 2010This book represents a reexamination of common understanding of ourselves as persons considering love and friendship. It starts with a long, detailed and informative introduction that considers the account of love as union and valuing based on either giving value or judging value. Moreover, in friendship the friends share not only a concern for each other, but also their activity and even potentially themselves. Helm argues for an understanding of persons as essentially social by providing a detailed analysis of different ideas.
Helm is a professor of philosophy at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. He has devoted a large part of his career to developing a solution to the mind and body problem that is sufficient to a serious moral psychology. His research interests a theory of emotions and their rational interconnections with other emotion, desires, and evaluative judgments that provides the basis for an account of the nature of persons.
The contents in this book was individually presented and discussed before Helm made it into a book. I personally like this book because it is a well-structured book that would help the reader to understand the basis for an understanding of a variety of loving relationships. Also, the discussion on similarities and differences among the types of relationships is clear.
Battle between the Autobots and Decepticons rains destruction down on planet earth. They fought for the sole access to a talisman known as the AllSpark. a cube with a capacity of infinite power. Hundreds of years later, both of them don’t know where the cube is hidden on earth, but the information to find it was stored in the most unlikely place, Sam Witwicky’s (LaBeouf) great-grandfather’s glasses. He just picked up his first car which is Bumblebee (Autobot) making him the unlikely ally of the Autobots; Together they fight for the humankind’s survival, and the chance for the Autobots to return home.
Bay started his career directing music videos and commercials. Later on, he directed produced movies like Armageddon 1999, Pearl Harbor 2001, Transformer Saga, and 13 Hours; The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi 2016. Bay has displayed tendencies as a director to create loud, long, and bombastic action sequences. Although, the critics and the people have so many bad reviews against him about being the worst director and being selfish, however, his overall goal is the enjoyment of his audience.
I chose this movie because of the camaraderie between the Autobots and humans (protagonist), to defend the earth against the Decepticons (antagonist), was greatly presented. Although it is not the main topic of the movie, I want to write about the importance of friendship through duty.
