Importance Of Identifying The Introvert And Extrovert Character
I consider myself an Extrovert. In my personal life, I am socially active and like to hang out with my friends. I am comfortable in speaking up and doesn’t mind being loud. I like loud parties where I like to do a casual dance when most of my friends are in two minds. Teachers in the classroom have a great responsibility in understanding the kids and in serving them as per their needs, character, personality, and temperament. So, they need to serve the introverts and extroverts accordingly and give equal choices to let them be themselves and grow. Both introverts and extroverts have their strengths and weaknesses.
We learned that 1 in every 3 kids, is an introvert. Hence it is essential to recognize that solitude of those introverts’ matter and they shouldn’t be bullied for being involved in contemplation. Teachers need to understand their kids and their personalities and should keep a watch on their traits. And as Susan mentioned, teachers should realize and provide that freedom to introvert kids and letting them take their own time, in solving things. Susan’s Ted talk was exceptional. Most parts of her talk resonated with me. Though I am an extrovert, the reason why I agree with her and why I say her talk resonates with me, is I know my own brother who is an introvert. And I know the importance of identifying their character and respecting it. I would like to emphasize a few points here: I am amazed at how she said, she made self-negating choices in her life subconsciously. And that makes me think how many of us make similar self-negating choices, unknowingly? (Probably many). I agree with her that we all must be in a zone of stimulation that will enrich us, for betterment. Otherwise, she says it’s a loss for everybody. I also like the fact that she mentioned every one of us, need to be more introspective with contemplation and at the same time, be a social animal while exhibiting the personality, i. e. to maintain balance and try to be an Ambivert. I like the way she gave real-world examples (Cofounders of Apple Computers Inc. : Steve Wozniak (an introvert) and Steve Jobs (an extrovert)) that we all can relate to and understand the essence of the story.
One other point that really strikes the chord with me is that how she mentioned the underlying cultural aspects of Western Society (mainly Americans) have changed over the last few centuries. Culturally we have changed from the culture of character to culture of personality. And she backed the theory that personality and just talkativeness cannot bring you success, and it’s the contemplation, thought and eventually, ideas are the ones that bring your success.
