Modern Technology: Its Advantages and Disadvantages
Technology is one of the most changing term in the world. It is in everywhere, when it comes to the military it directly affects to the effectiveness. So, this can happen in many ways. Concerning about the military, soldiers could not fight as they want so that they need equipment. So this is a very important matter. This is Introducing of Modern Technology Essay where this topic will be discussed.
We can define technology as an Application of knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to changing and manipulating the human environment. Technology includes the use of materials, tools, techniques, and sources of power to make life easier or more pleasant and work more productive. Whereas science is concerned with how and why things happen, technology focuses on making things happen.
Modern technology is simply an advancement of old technology. The impact of technology in modern life is unmeasurable, technology can be used in different ways and sometimes the way it implement various technologies do more damage than good. Technology is used on a daily basis to accomplish specific tasks or interests.
Military technology is the application of technology to be used in warfare. Day by day, it is developing. It embraces the kinds of technology that are distinctly military in nature and not civilian in application, generally they lack useful or legal civilian applications, or are dangerous to use without appropriate military training and consists with range of weapons, equipment, structures, and vehicles used specifically for the purpose of warfare. It includes the knowledge required to construct such technology, to employ it in combat, and to repair and replenish it. . Generally, when technology attempts to solve problems of matter, energy, space, or time, it is successful. When it attempts to solve human problems of the mind, communication, ability, etc. it fails or backfires dangerously.
In present world, there are many of the military equipment which are used by the military, By using those types of weapon systems and equipment. we also can gain the force survivability. So most of the time those things are often researched and developed by scientist those who related to military. In modern world many countries are invest large amount of fund for the technologies such as cognitive radar systems, 5g cellular networks microchips, semiconductors & large scale analytical engines. Most of countries seek to improve their laser technology, for example Israeli defence forces are using this technology to disable small enemy machinery.
Many countries in the world are continuing to perform research on autonomous technologies. So it will be benefited to increase troop mobility or replacement of live soldiers. Ultimately it will helps to increase the effectiveness of military personals. It is no any secret that the United States military researches are looking forward some high tech technologies which consist with digital components. According to this matter, when we consider about the soldier system it is composed with the individual and his equipment such as clothing, communications equipment, ammunition and weapon system.
When considering about the Sri Lankan Army which is using traditional weaponry systems, communication facilities and transportation systems of soldiers and weaponary.Therefore war was extended in three decades and equipment in every aspects. But most of developed countries has makes used military technology in various aspects. It was helped to gain a eminent position in military power in the world. Normally there isn’t any secrets that the world superpower countries such as US, Russia which are use some of the world’s most forward looking technologies. Most of the them are with the digital compound. So the effectiveness of those equipment is very high. Most of their soldiers working with the high tech gadgets which are designed to increase the operational efficiently and also the safety. So one of the modern concept is soldiers and the vehicles are linked to a real time network, by doing that they can perform their operation easily. Digital tools help soldiers to navigate unfamiliar areas and interact with locals who speak different languages and track enemies during a firefight. For example, the project Land Warrior which was one program designed by US army. Goal of this project was to increase fighting ability in urban warfare and other situations where large armored vehicles and long distance weaponry aren’t practical. Soldiers are equipped with computers, GPS receivers, Radios, video cameras and other gears and all these thing are designed to increase the battlefield awareness and combat value of individuals. Conducting these type of research may cause to enhance the effectiveness of a military personnel in armed forces.
Comparing to the other countries the uses of modern equipment are very less amount to the other nations as a developing country. So, uses of new technology will enhance the effectiveness of the military personals. Day by day super power countries tent to research, innovate new things relating to this matter. When it come to our forces most of the time, we used old equipment for example during the humanitarian war anti-tank guided missiles were introduced and we took maximum usage from those but those weapons were made in 1980s so generally if our armed forces had a modern equipment they can perform above level.
In conclusion, when considering about the situation in Sri Lanka we should improve and develop individual equipment of military personnel such as including weapons, clothing, communication gear etc. for that we should concern many areas. First we have to develop our training equipment, at the present we are having firing simulators. But there are many more things which are using in other countries such as simulator training systems for military vehicles, Air force simulated trainings, Faces of training which is an application software to train soldier in virtual battle conditions. So using these type of trainings we can make a well trained soldier. The combination of man and equipment is greater than the sum of its parts and combination of technology, motivation and training can overcome more barriers than the individual or equipment was designed to do.
