My Ambition To Become A Professional Financial Investment Banker

I believe the most important element in regards to being a successful student and achieving desired grades to advance to a higher level in life, is not just about having a good work ethic and being consolidated to a subject, it’s also one's interest and natural passion for what they are studying. Seeking to become a professional financial investment banker, I aspire to attend university leading on to the completion of a master’s degree.

“The Intelligent Investor” by Benjamin Graham, first inspired my passion for investment banking leading to many hours in the library, where I was able to gain a better understanding on key strategies and the global market as a whole. Over time it became clear to me that the people who understood the banking system in depth were most able to understand the decisions made by governments and the future of society. I aspire to be one of these people. Mathematics is one of the utmost interesting subjects simply due to its endless boundaries and depths that can be explored. Being a levelheaded and explicit person, I enjoy the challenge of questions with unequivocal answers. Physics has answered many questions about our universe as well as everything in it. An amazing feature of Physics is how complex physical phenomena can be broken down by simple and elegant theories.

I class myself as very athletic. Having played for several football teams, I currently participate in a five a side league and have been playing tennis for over ten years. I became a member of Linden Lea tennis club and participated in competitive matches working my way up into the gold league. Alongside sports, I enjoy staying up to date with the world by taking an avid interest in financial news. I believe it is important to stay informed on the world and its current affairs as it not only helps you socially in everyday conversations but shapes the way you see things that are constantly changing around you. Being raised in a family that has always had a musical background has strongly influenced my passion for music. Achieving grade 6 in guitar and recently passing grade 3 in drums has allowed me to connect with people of all different races, religions, and languages through the sound of music. Completing the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award was a fun but challenging task which allowed me to experience the hard work and self-dedication it requires to complete a multitude of tasks. Alongside this, I also completed the National Citizen Service which significantly improved my social skills and shaped me as a person to be very independent in what I do.

Being assigned the role of school prefect, I take part and support our whole school events which involve me having to be flexible and confident with all members of the school community. Over the two years of A-Levels, I have supplemented this academic interest with work experience within the financial sector. My placement on, “The Young Investment Banking Programme” at The University Of Manchester gave me a 360-degree experience in investment banking where I was trained on how to secure a front-office position and given access to established investment bankers. During the program, I was given the opportunity to attend a one-on-one question and answer session which I found particularly beneficial. I was able to cover specific areas involving sales and trading, hedge funds and private equity, which gave me an overall boosted insight into finance as a whole. Commuting to Stoke-on-Trent (Wood Goldstraw Yorath LLP) I was given the opportunity to provide a budget for a client where I had to meet their overall set prices in completion of their house. The experience gave me a strong understanding on how to work with a variety of people and how to manage money in a more sophisticated way.

I believe that studying a Banking and Finance degree will equip me with the knowledge and understanding to facilitate me forging a long and rewarding career in this area.
