Life's Best Moments: Reflections on My Most Memorable Experience
High School is arguably the best time of a person's life, at least this is what the media portrays. Having new experiences from Homecoming to getting your driver's license to graduating and starting to navigate the world for yourself. This is my best experience in life essay where I want to share my story. Whether people make the best or worst of these four years will determine whether or not there is experience is life-changing or not. For me to get the most out of high school I had to break out of my shell.
Ever since I was a child I dealt with being shy. Many situations brought out my shyness; talking to my peers, ordering food at a restaurant, answering questions in class, talking to family members and asking for help when I needed it. Growing up my parents never wanted to push me into a situation that would make me uncomfortable or anxious, because of this I never knew that being shy would affect me in my work/school life as well as my personal life.
When I started High School I quickly realized that I needed to step out of my comfort zone and open up if I wanted to be apart of a sport, club/organization or going to school events with my friends. Coming to this realization was a real eye-opener and made me more excited to go and be at school. During the same time, I unexpectedly developed chronic migraines, which made it even harder to make friends, go to events, and join organizations. I started to miss more school due to the migraines as a result being social had become even more of a priority than before. Being home all the time and not being able to be with people the same age as I became very isolating.
It came apparent to me that joining a club, organization or sport was still very important to me. I was determined to not let migraines control my life when it didn’t have to and I wasn’t going to let it define me. I wanted my high school experience to be the best it could and I decided to join yearbook.
Joining the yearbook helped me become more confident. This class has been my best experience and accomplishment during my high school career. During the first couple of months, I became the natural leader of the group and was given the role of being the editor. The co-editor and I changed the yearbook layout and have been improving the book each year since.
Even though migraines did take away apart from my high school experience, I am happy to say I have grown from them and have learned that being confident is more important than being afraid of the unknown. If it wasn’t for me developing chronic migraines or having the mentality of being more adventurous I would have stayed in my comfort zone and I would not be resilient or adventurous like I am today.
