My Desire To Study At A Medical School In The United Kingdom

Helping people has always been my passion and something I was born to do. That is the reason I decided to volunteer. The association where I chose to volunteer called “Pegaz” helps children with disabilities through horseback riding. It is a combination of spending time in nature with animals and, most importantly, bringing smiles to children’s faces.

One time a girl was intimidated by a horse and afraid to get on. My fellow volunteers and I introduced her to the horse slowly, just so she could stand by it and pet it. Once she was comfortable she sat on the horse and I took her for a ride. The smile and joy on her face was the best gift that anybody could have given me and I still think about it to this day. I grew up in a family of doctors. My mother and grandmother have always been role models whom I haveve looked up to. They have been my main influence in pursuing a medical career but also a great insight into the true nature of the job itself. Despite coming home tired every day, my mother is a truly satisfied person because she knows she changed someone’s life for the better. However, it is a great responsibility to have because, basically, she is responsible for the life and well-being of an individual. She needs to be certain she prescribed the right medications or wrote a correct diagnosis. Everything considered, I have realised I wanted to dedicate my life to help people in general. Volunteering is a great way to experience that feeling and I am glad I did. Through the work of my family I realised being a doctor is a very honourable and rewarding profession despite it being both stressful and responsible at the same time.

My dream has always been studying in the United Kingdom. I got to feel how it was like while on a summer school in Cambridge. Alongside experiencing life in a student dorm and having classes, I tried out the local cuisine, visited most of the colleges and even tried out punting along the river Cam. The beautiful greenery and architecture just added to the amazing beauty of the city. I also met students from around the world with whom I have stayed in touch ever since. The general atmosphere and friendliness of the public left a positive mark on my perception of the country. On the other hand, the cosmopolitan capital of London also amazed me, with its liveliness, hustle and bustle, different nations in one place and a vast variety of places to visit and see. These reasons all contributed to my decision to study in the United Kingdom. I always wanted to study in English, be surrounded by people from different cultures and with different backgrounds, so I could socialise and learn something new every day alongside regular studies. I have already experienced similar life while living in Dubai. I completed grades 6 and 7 in an IB school. I was introduced to life with people from all around the world. I had many different nationalities in my class and got to see what people are like from different places. It was an experience that opened my eyes and made me a more open minded person. I was the only person from my country in the entire school and I was proud to represent it. It is a feeling I would like to experience again by studying abroad.

All in all, studying at a medical school has always been my life goal. My cousin has also contributed to my decision to study in the United Kingdom, because she herself graduated at a medical school there and is now becoming a doctor. It is a position where I could see myself in a few years, working and meeting many interesting people, helping them and working in a different environment that I am used to. I would be happy to take on the challenge.
