My Desire To Study Engineering At The University Of Pennsylvania
I grew up in Abu Dhabi, a city with sumptuous skyscrapers of great magnitude, mega shopping centers, modern F1 circuit where hundreds of fire-breathing, ear-splitting F1 cars return every year for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, remarkable architecture, taken from the most inspirational source that is-nature, and the list goes on and on. Sadly, people forget to appreciate the main ingredient behind these recipes, Engineering. This wasn’t the case for me until, due to my habitual “sightseeing” of these spectacular projects (on the way to school or coming back home, from visiting my friend’s place to going for grocery), I developed an inquisitiveness to know the mechanical solutions behind these projects that sustain and support these skyscrapers and these theme parks, these delicate and remarkable architectures, and the kinetics and the dynamics behind the F1 automobiles and its engines. But which university should I apply to? The answer came to me instantaneously; The University of Pennsylvania.
The UPenn has many attractive features from its fascinating location to its picturesque, bewitching campus, but to me, the most appealing aspect lies in its fundamental principles. UPenn emphasizes the importance of both theory and practice. The co-operative and engaging professors that together with students, dig deep into researches, with a motto to strive and make the impossible possible, no matter with what they are dealing with: from quantum mechanics to lepton colliders to invisibility cloaks to basically everything out of science fiction. UPenn’s belief in, and encouragement of interdisciplinary studies and collaboration helps us, the students, to dive into ourselves and discover our veiled interests, and hence allowing the students to express their academic creativity and discover new ways of rendering information. With its study abroad program, students including myself will have the opportunity to embrace and adapt to new challenges, collaborate with people from different backgrounds, enhance our language skills and cultural competence in an intensive, academic environment, develop lifelong friendships with students from all over the world, and hence helps us to establish ourselves in this new competitive global community. Moreover, it’s on campus recruiting program aids Penn graduates to achieve their career goals.
These foundational beliefs; which are reflected in its world-class education, state-of-the-art research opportunities, and encouragement of interdisciplinary studies and collaboration, study abroad programs, its fierce dedication to global education; present UPenn as my ideal university.
I look forward to completing a full, exciting university life at UPenn and growing as an individual, a friend, and as a leader.
