A Reflection on My Teamwork Experience
I grew up playing a lot of team sports, but my favourite was football. The teamwork and hard work needed to win always pushed me to do my best. My coach always told us «A player can make a difference, but a team can make a miracle». This means a lot to me because of the experience I had over the past few years. We had trouble playing as a team because everyone wanted to be the star. I will explain today in "My Teamwork Experience: Essay Sample" why a team can overcome obstacles and accomplish great things if they work hard together.
After a great season, the end was near and we had just a few more games to go before the playoffs. Our team had only lost 2 games over the course of the season and we were favourites to win the championship. While playing one of our final games our best player had gotten severely injured. It was a ACL injury and he would be out for the rest of the year. We knew that now more than ever, we were going to have to play as a team and leave the selfish stuff aside. All the teams ruled us out of winning the championship without our star player.
It was going to be tough, but I knew that if we worked as a unit, we could accomplish anything. This meant to us that even though we lost our star player, we could overcome this obstacle and accomplish our goal. The day came, the championship final was finally here. The majority of the team was sad and devastated that our star player could not play. Someone was going to have to step up, and lead this team to victory. Without hesitation, i stood up and gathered my teammates to give them a couple of words of encouragement. I told them that anything is possible. If we all come together and play as one, greatness can be obtained. We ran on to the field, ready to play.
Before the game started, our team gathered and gave a salute to our teammate watching in the crowd. At that moment, I realized that these guys were my family. If i wasn't going to do it for me, I should go do it for them. The game began and we instantly scored. This would happen the whole length of the game because when we were playing as a team, we couldn’t be stopped. We ended up winning that game and I held up the trophy with my teammates carrying me in joy. We overcame the adversity, simply by working together. During all this celebration, I look in the stands and find my injured teammate, with a giant smile on his face. My eyes glow up and a big smile spreads across my face. I gave him a final wave, as we headed into the locker room.
In conclusion, this experience taught me a valuable lesson. There’s no «I» in team. If we were going to accomplish what we set to do, it wasn’t going to be easy but when we worked together, the pieces to the puzzled solved them self. Sure we had some players better than other but I will always remember what my coach told me; «A player can make a difference, but a team can make a miracle». That will stick with me forever.
