A Reflection On My Experience In Track And Field

Participating in track and field has provided me with opportunities to grow not only in sports, but also in life. Throughout my life, track and field has significantly change the way I think, act and my overall performance in different sports. Track and field contains numerous amount of activities such as sprints, long distance and field events, which includes but not limited to discuss throwing and hammer throwing, among others. For the most part track and field is an individual sport that helps you to learn more about yourself and what you can or cannot achieve. I want to tell about my journey and discovery of myself in track and field in "My Experience In Track And Field: Essay" paper.

Track and field provided me the opportunity to bring out my true potential and love for the sport. Due to the love of this sport I was able to push surpass my limits and achieved gold medal at various events. While running around and playing tag with friends, I thought I was really fast, as no one was able to catch or tag me. I felt my muscles tightening and the adrenaline coursing through my body. I felt free and untouchable, like a mustang running through an open grass of land on a sunny day. More than just running, there are many things behind track and field. This sport is often looked upon as a sport that you can do without any real training or commitment, you are just naturally fast. Training, a way of progressive exercise or work, helps you increase the ability of the muscular system, the nervous system as well as the metabolism. There are many types of training that a runner must do in order to perform at his or her absolute best. Different events demands different levels of athletes with special capability such as speed, flexibility, skills, strength and endurance.

Obviously, speed is a huge part in a race but most people are not aware that reaction time is extremely important as well as movement time -which is the time taken in the action of moving your limbs such as your arms and legs. How fast you are able to get your foot back on the turf or ground after you have lifted it between powerful strides is very important. I improved this by weight training and speed interval exercises. Weight training is a common type of training used to increase balance, stability, flexibility and also build muscle by using the force of gravity in form of weighted bars, while interval training is a high intensity workout that involves short and high bust of speed with slow recovery phases repeated certain amount of times. Both workouts are quiet difficult at first, but eventually your body adjust to the changes. Over the years I realize that the strength of an athlete affects many factors of their performance. Their speed and endurance can be enhanced by their strength which I learned from my past coaches. In order for a runner to enhance his/her strength they must work on three types of muscle such as the cardiac muscle of the heart, the striated skeleton muscle and the muscle smooth muscles. The cardiac muscle of the heart helps pump blood throughout the entire body. The striated skeleton muscle, which is mainly attached to the bones and the skin is responsible for the mobility of the body and limbs, while the smooth muscle help with pushing materials such as food or blood through organs. Each muscle has a various task to complete throughout your body. As a track athlete, this sport has done wonderful things in my life. Individuals who have taken part can agree that track makes you physical and mentally stronger especially when the adrenaline rush kicks in during a fantastic race. No matter how important these things may be, having the benefit of being a track athlete are the life lessons you learn throughout your experience. You can be the absolute best, fastest or most qualified and if you decide not to put any work in, it will never matter. From past experiences I realize that, the one who tries the hardest to get the job done will come on top.

I have lost to that type of person many times, but eventually as I grew I began to understand. I am capable of so much more than I think, all I needed to do was to break the shackles of limitation and surpass my mind of thought.
