The second Monday of October is one of the most incredible days of the year. Thanksgiving day is an extraordinary holiday that brings together family and friends to celebrate and give thanks. From the pumpkin and fall decorations to the mouth-watering feast, there are many reasons why is my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. In this essay, I will share the reasons why this day holds a special place in my heart, including the joy of being with loved ones, the delicious food that is shared, and the tradition of expressing gratitude for the blessings in our lives. Ever since I was a little girl, Thanksgiving day has been a time for me to create lasting memories and appreciate the things that truly matter.
The main reason this is my favorite holiday is because of the delicious food, spending time with family and the beautiful crisp air of the fall season. There is nothing better than an entire holiday that revolves around delicious food. I am a fan of large meals spent surrounded by my family, so this is the main reason why I love Thanksgiving. For my family, the first thing we do when we wake up in the morning is begin the preparation of the dinner. The aroma of the turkey cooking all day in the oven is the utmost incomparable scent ever. It’s a tradition for us that we gather at my parents home to celebrate. We do a potluck style, so everyone in my family brings some sort of food or dessert to add to the meal.
The menu for our Thanksgiving day is incredible, we always have a big feast. The meal includes turkey, ham, potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, vegetables, casseroles and my all time favorite, pumpkin pie. The supper is amazing but sometimes even the leftovers are better. The piles of leftovers are another reason why the food for Thanksgiving is one of the best times to spend quality time with your family. It’s one of the few times of the year that my entire family is able to get together. I don’t get to see my extended family as often as I’d like, so knowing I get to see my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins on this day means a lot to me. It’s wonderful to be able to catch up on our busy lives, and just enjoy each others company over a delicious meal. A tradition my family has on Thanksgiving is that we always play some sort of fun game. Whether it be a board game or a hands-on intense game of charades or musical chairs. Being with my family and making memories is another reason why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. There’s nothing quite like the fresh air that makes your cheeks rosy, the crisp sound underneath your feet, and the breathtaking colors that occur in the fall. This season is another reason why I love Thanksgiving.
I have many fond memories during the fall with my family. We always make a tradition to go apple picking, and also picking pumpkins to carve together. I have always loved fall because I am able to dress in my favorite attire. Over-sized comfy sweaters, with tall boots and chunky scarves. The weather is the perfect temperature for me as well, it’s not hot like in the summer, but it’s not too cold where there is snow on the ground. Everything smells amazing in the fall, to the delicious hot drinks different restaurants come out with, to the apple pies cooking in the oven. These are just a few of the reasons why Thanksgiving is my favorite because it just happens to be during my favorite season of all. The most delicious array of foods, with tons of leftovers, spending quality time with my family and also the gorgeous colors of the changing leaves.
These are just a few of the main reasons why Thanksgiving will always be my favorite holiday. Every family has their own traditions, but being able to spend time with my loved ones, in the beautiful crisp air, enjoying a feast will always be something I am very thankful for.
