My First Day In High School – The Day A Will Remember Forever

I woke up very early in the morning to pack all that was needed in school and my personal belongings to my new metallic box. I was so excited that I was going to join one of the giant schools in the country famously known as the school of men. This is the first day I felt like a grown up. My brother came in to help me pack and soon all was done. I went and took a cold shower, wore my old primary uniform as it was a requirement by the school. I looked very bold and energetic, ready for school. It was now time to bid my parents bye. They were so excited that their last born was joining high school. My mum was a bit worried about how I will go and cope with school life. As a norm all mothers will want the best for their children. “Go and work hard in school. All we want from you is good result. ” My dad said. “I will do my best Baba” I replied feeling nervous. “Yes, I want you to be successful like your elder brothers. We will be always praying for you. ”“Thank you, Baba. ” I replied my filled with tears.

“Remember me and your mum sacrifice a lot for you people to have a good future. Your success is our happiness. ” He said putting his had in the back pocket and took out some money. “Have this for your bread and manage it well. ” He said. “Thanks Baba. ” I replied. It’s was time to leave and I bid them bye. My brother helped me carry the box while I carried the mattress and embarked on the long-distance walk to the bus stop. When we arrived, we boarded the bus famously know as matatu. Inside the bus there so many other students also reporting to various schools. In an hour we alighted at the school gate; the school was along the road. Fear started creeping in as we entered the main gate. I would imagine bullying and mistreatment from senior students. As we approached the admission office we came across one lady who was very smartly dressed. She welcomed us with a warm smile on her face and offered us a seat. “Welcome to Kabianga High School. ” She said looking at me with a smiley face.

“Thank you, madam. ” I replied “What is your name?” She asked. “I am Ezra. ” I replied. “Okay, let me see your calling letter and the result slip. ” She said. I handed her my documents and she began the admission process. After the registration process was done, I was issued with new uniform and assigned one of the school prefects to show me my dormitory. He helped us carry some items to the dorm, which was a half mile from the administration offices. When we arrived at the dormitory, I was shown my new bed. The dorm as untidy and not well organized as the norm with boy’s schools. Beds were not made, there was no door locks and some windows broken. I knew that the dream had just begun. It was now time for my brother to leave; I felt so lonely and tears started running down my chic. I was already missing home. I was missing my mum. I was missing my friends and the warm environment I enjoyed at home. It was preps time after taking the ‘sweetest’ supper I have ever had. We were told to go and study in the library hall since we had not been given desks and chairs. The prep was short; spend most of the time catching with friends I was with in primary school. It was 10 o’clock and all the roads were heading to the dormitory. On the way I could hear senior students calling on the form one students sarcastically. Form one students were known as monos meaning one. No one liked to be called the name but you had no otherwise. When I arrived at the dormitory I sat on the bed think of how life will be; I was already having homesick. I was feeling hungry since I was not used taking my supper late at home and I decide to prepare cold chocolate. When I reached to open my box, I was got with the shock of my life. I didn’t believe what I saw; my box had been broken into and all my belongings stolen. I sat back in the bed and started crying. I felt so hurt; could imagine it happen to me. I hated being in boarding school. I didn’t know who to report to, or explain what had happen to me. My bed mate asked me what the problem was and I just pointed at the box. He was so sorry for me and he told we should report it to the dorm prefect. He had been admitted some few days before me, so he knew the dorm prefect and where he was sleeping.

I reported the incident to the prefect and he was sorry for me but told me there was no much he can do that night. He asked me to go and sleep and promised that he was going to take up the matter in the morning. The night was long and I had no sleep. When morning came, I went and reported the issue to the dorm master who was also sorry for me. He told me to go home and get new items as he does investigations on the incident. I was thinking of how my mum will react seeing me back home. I thought of the struggle my parents were going through to have the money for school fees and for buying all the items that were stolen. I felt so sorry for them; I wished I could help them, but how? The dorm master handed me a leave out sheet and told to report to school at my own convenient time. This is the day I will never forget.
