My Motivation To Attend China Scholar Program
Several people struggle with multiple nationalities and lose their way at one point. While trying to connect with their own cultures, they begin to discover themselves and find or start a brand new path, stepping into their destiny.
Last year as a freshman, I discovered the China Scholar Program by my elementary school, Chinese teacher. While I looked into it, I was genuinely looking forward to signing up, however, when I discovered it was for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, I felt really dispirited. Although, now as a sophomore, I am able to join and willing to learn. As a Vietnamese - Chinese American, having three nationalities is challenging to keep up with, especially speaking the languages. Living in America, I speak English fluently, however, I can somewhat speak Cantonese and Mandarin, while I cannot speak Vietnamese at all. By attending this program, I hope to discover myself at least partially.
I desire to attend the China Scholars Program because as a Vietnamese-Chinese-American, I realized that I don't know much about my own culture nor myself as an individual, which is why I want to join this program to find myself. Additionally, my parents never tell me much about our culture because they want me to focus on studying, however, by attending this program, it's a win-win for my parents and I. I can learn about my own culture while focusing on studying and learning more information at the same time. I think this program will benefit by allowing me to explore my own culture and history, gain more knowledge, experience new things, discovering myself, and prove to myself that I'm not an ordinary teenage girl, but an intelligent, sociable, and creative girl.
In conclusion, by attending the China Scholar Program, not only do I hope to discover myself but be able to share what I learn about my culture with others confidently and accurately. While receiving further insight into Chinese culture, engage with diverse groups of people, see how far I can challenge myself in learning and confidence in creating new friends, and perhaps find what profession I would like to do in the future while having fun at the same time. Maybe even a career related to my Asian side of my culture. As a very focus, organize, supportive and observant person. I like to take in various information making creative expression most of the time, and I'm always seeking out new things to experience and learn.
