My Potential To Pursue A Master'S Course In Mechanical Engineering
In the wake of widespread and global industrialization, it’s need of an individual to sharpen his skills and be able to radiate his passion and interest in his journey. From a young age, I have been fascinated by Science and technological transformations. During my schooling days, I read science magazines which further fueled my aspirations and helped me secure top ranks in International Science Olympiads. This added values to my movement and fostered creativity in my interesting journey. Further adding to it, I also secured 3rd position at the district level State Scholarship Examination. Later on, I focused on Science and Mathematics as my major domains, which further enhanced my analytical and quantitative skills and proved pillars of foundation for my undergraduate studies of Mechanical Engineering. Thus began my journey in search of cognizance and enlightenment. In the dawn of challenges and fierce competition, this realization instigated me to expand the horizons. Subjects, during my undergraduate studies, like Engineering Mathematics helped me to acquaint with sufficient background, added conceptual clarity of mathematical principles. Applied Mechanics and Design developed my ability to analyze, understand, identify and quantify failure modes and to decide optimum design parameters for mechanical systems. Further, it enhanced my proficiency of CAD software for designing mechanical systems and to generate production drawing.
Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Product Design and Development exposed me to illimitable opportunities in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Industrial visits not only helped to expand the thinking process but helped me to get a broader outlook at the actual implementation of various subjects. Learning experiences gets maximized when an individual has an opportunity to experiment and also hold the responsibility for the outcomes. My final year major project offered me such learning experience. It was titled as "Parametric Study of Composite Bolted Joints subjected to Compression Shear Loading. " The project activity included designing and developing a test fixture considering relevant ASTM standards and procedures for compressive shear loading. The work primarily focused on the determination of the effect of parametric variation on the joint stiffness. Apart from academics, project execution also taught me how to work collaboratively, to negotiate and engage with team members to facilitate delivery and achieving goals with a unified approach. This made me self-driven and persistent in demanding quality, energizing & inspiring the team by acting as a role model. Following my graduation studies, I was offered to serve at "Atlas Copco (India) Limited". Atlas Copco India, established in 1960, is India's leading manufacturer of innovative solutions in air compressors and industrial gases and much more.
During my tenure as an apprentice trainee, I got a hands-on experience to work with experts and professionals in the fields of Production, Design & Manufacturing, Engineering, and Testing, Safety, Health, Environment, Quality & Maintenance. In addition to that, it helped me gain immense exposure about Lean Manufacturing Tools which now are an integral part of companies all over the world incorporating into their processes which in turn help to improve their manufacturing operations. LEAN tools that I got versed with were ANDON, 5S, KANBAN, KAIZEN, KPI's, PDCA and POKA-YOKE. This not only fueled my knowledge but also added to my exploration in fields of manufacturing and production which I further decided to pursue in my Masters Studies. I actively participated in ‘Safety Observation Tour’ carried out throughout plant and production lines to identify analyze and thereby reduce possibilities of safety incidents like accidents, injuries, near misses. I not only monitored but also prevented major breakdowns of critical equipment's and processes to achieve maximum uptime & effective functioning of maintenance activities which ensured that production lines deliver maximum output without any interruptions during assembly of air compressors.
Quality Control helped me to understand and implement quality tools like Pareto Chart & Fish-bone diagram for preparing quality reports and also analyze & evaluate supplier 8D reports & thereby propose an action plan. Nowadays adherence to management policies is a vital part of an organization. Similarly, my responsibility also included organizing awareness training and internal audits regarding the Integrated Management System (IMS) (ISO 9001 /14001 /18001). I, with the help of team of internal auditors, participated in system internal audits for IMS (ISO 9001 /14001 /18001) & identifying HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment), Environmental Aspect/Impact Assessment to ensure that the Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment policies and procedures are implemented and strictly adhered. I also got to use my managerial skills during erection of 400kW Solar Power Plant on Atlas Copco Chakan Plant Rooftop. I not only managed the implementation activities but ensured the proper timely execution and safety of the workers. Later on, Atlas Copco (India) Limited Chakan Plant won '2017 Environmental Award'. All these experiences significantly improved my understanding of the fields of Production, Manufacturing, and Management and further enhanced my interest in it. At this point of my life, in order to endeavor my professional career, I feel that my educational qualification accompanied with my industrial experience have enabled me to strengthen my capabilities and have urged me to step in the right direction and pursue my Master's Course in Mechanical Engineering from your internationally renowned university. I believe this will empower me to integrate and align my professional goals and also gain a deeper and higher dimension of life. Germany ranked as a most innovative country, is a world leader of science, innovation, and technology. Along with world’s most leading universities equipped with research facilities and manufacturing industries, it’s a dream come true for any engineer to pursue masters in.
I was particularly attracted towards the course of Global Production Engineering, learning through the university website, it is renowned to offer industry related course in an active research-oriented environment. Equipped with most modern technological facilities and laboratories, it is undeniable fact that GPE is one of the most sought and dream course to opt for. Production Technology Center is definitely one of the most practical research-oriented technology center. Boasting numerous high-tech plants and assembly shops, it would surely be able to assist me to inculcate the fundamentals of the German technology used in production technologies in me and also help me to improve my technical competency and address the needs in fields of production, manufacturing and renewable energies.
My goal is not only to seek knowledge until masters but also pursue Ph. D. and TU Berlin is one of the few TU9, where I can make my dream come true. The courses, I learned, focused qualitatively in nature with had impetus majorly on subjective perception. But with this realization, I believe to expand my horizons of knowledge and experience beyond the boundaries of graduate schools to one of your esteemed organization where topics like ethics, values, leadership, and creativity are being discussed and debated upon!
