My Purposes In Life And How I Am Going To Achieve Them
Having a purpose in life means knowing where we want to go. I believe that a person without a purpose is a person who is limited to live only in their comfort zone, without being able to challenge themselves and fight against their fears. A purpose motivates us to be a better person every day in any field. My academic purpose is to achieve excellence and receive my bachelor’s degree in Aerospace engineering, to have the opportunity to contribute to aeronautical safety through my work and effort. My personal purpose is to achieve that happiness through the decisions that I make throughout my life, being a person of success and at the same time, to be the reason of pride not only to my parents but also to the wife and children that I will one day have. Once we know where we want to go, how do we know which road to take to reach our destination? The way to know is to define our values, strengths, and interests.
At work, for me represents a value the fact that my efforts give direct results, where together with my skills and good attitude emerge successes. Working from Cart Attendant at the Target supermarket to being responsible for the pool maintenance, I realize the need I have to see direct results of my actions. I have learned that effort and dedication lead to great achievements. The family is a very personal value for me. Every achievement that I have collected throughout my life has the reason of making my parents proud of me, also to follow in the footsteps of my grandparents, which are synonymous of perseverance and commitment that must be had to achieve our purposes. On the other hand, I am aware that I have complete freedom to choose how I reach my goals. I think that being educated academically is indispensable to be able to go far in life and overcome almost any obstacle in our path. An academic value for me is to know that through study and knowledge I have the opportunity to grow as a person, develop a broad and critical vision, and achieve contribute to society. In this way, I know that giving the best of myself, hoping for positive results, with the desire to leave my family's name on the rise while growing as a person are values that will accompany me to achieve my purpose. Of course, each of us has different tools to do it. These tools are known as strengths.
Days before starting High School, I had a conversation with my parents. I remember that they told me that I was about to begin a very important stage in my life. They demanded that I give the best of myself since it would determine the way in which I would achieve my dreams, and certainly it was. I can say that during that stage I cultivated numerous and important strengths that I would then use not only in the academic field but also in the labor and personal field. I consider myself a disciplined person, I do not like surprises, I try as much as possible to predict the future, establish routines, steps to follow, plan b, c, and even z, in adverse cases. I also consider responsibility as another of my strengths. For example, I find it unacceptable to fail someone, I feel that my name and good reputation depend directly on it. I need to do things the right way and ratify my colleagues that can count on me.
Finally, consistency. The balance is important for me, I understand and value the effort of my neighbor. I consider myself totally against all those who try to pass over others to achieve their goals. I enjoy working knowing that only the effort and dedication of each of us are instruments for success without despising anyone regardless of their position in life. As a result, I trust in these three strengths that I consider the most important in my repertoire. Being disciplined, responsible and consistent are tools that will be present with me right at the moment that I achieve my purpose, but it is also fundamental to discuss what helps us to continue our path as are our personal interests.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by airplanes. Everything related to aviation is of great interest to me, at a point of feeling the need to learn more every day from its history and evolution to understand all those factors that make it possible for such large and heavy object to take off, it is something that I am simply passionate about. I think that the ideal career for a person means including all those things that they love and making them into a job. So, I am sure that if in the future I am able to work on something related to civil aeronautics or aviation in general, it would be a success. Currently, there are tons of works dedicated to aviation, but there are only two that have caught my attention, which is a commercial pilot and aeronautical engineering.
Both careers require that the person has interests related to the responsibilities that are required in the job. Through analysis, I realize that I am a realistic person who likes to meet challenges and find solutions to problems if something breaks first, I look for a way to fix it before reporting it. I always seek to be self-sufficient and contribute all my knowledge to the search for solutions. Eventually, I think that my interests satisfactorily fulfill what aviation is asking for. Of course, being clear about the direction in which I am going is something that will help me fulfill my purpose.
At this moment, I am beginning my studies at Valencia College. My main goal is to strive and obtain excellent grades to stand out as a good student and thus be able to take more concrete steps towards my dreams. In my opinion, to be a good student I need to be responsible and disciplined with each assignment and have consistency with my classmates, looking for the perfect balance where we can reach our goals. But these strengths will also be present when applying all my knowledge in the labor field. Aeronautical engineering, for example, is a challenging career, where engineers are tested every day in different problems.
My interests and abilities are directed to this type of demand, I am realistic, and I like to face problems with possible solutions. It is for this reason that another of my objectives is to work on something related to the field of aeronautics. Also, as an aviation fan, I have followed the constant changes and where his development is directed. Finally, I know that my values drive me to continue the search for excellence both in my studies and at work. I believe that my family will always be the main motivator in my aspirations, at the same time my parents will be happy to see how their son is a professional in a field that he is so passionate about.
To conclude, through this essay I learned the path to follow and the tools that will help me achieve my purposes. Having as motivation my values and interests and helping me through my strengths that, until recently, I did not know. Now I understand the commitment I have with myself to achieve success. Every day, I try being a better person with those around me and with whom in the future I will have the opportunity to live. Also, I will dedicate myself professionally in an area that I am passionate about, enjoying every day of work as if it were a vacation, and enjoying at the same time all those little details that life gives us.
