Exploring Personality Traits: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again” – Nelson Mandela

“Changes will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” – Barack Obama

Protagonists are natural born leaders, full of passion & charisma. Forming around 2% of the population, they are oftentimes our politicians, our coaches and our teachers reaching out and inspiring others to achieve and to do well in world. Protagonist takes a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to improve themselves and their community. A protagonist with personality ENFJ-A indicates:

  • E – Extraverted
  • N – Intuitive
  • F – Feeling
  • J – Judging
  • A – Assertive

Extrovert would be an outgoing and socially confident person who would love having conversation with others, in fact they would be the one to initiate the conversation with random people. I am an extrovert who likes socialising and meeting new peoples having good conversation with them but on very less occasions I would be the one initiating the conversation making me a kind of introvert too. That’s the reason why my personality doesn’t reflect major portion of extraversion (just 65%) and introversion (35%) making me a“ Ambivert ” personality who loves to socialize with people but with a fear of talking to random people of what they might think. There have been many instances when joining a new college or new workplace or meeting new people (maybe friends of friends) I would not initiate a conversation with my colleagues or friends but when I get to know them well and share a kind of bonding they become an integral part of my life. Hanging out, sharing things, thoughts and feelings with them become just simple as compared to what is would be on the first day when I met them.

Intuitive trait would be individuals who prefer to rely on their imagination, ideas and possibilities. They dream, fantasize and question why things happen the way they do, always feeling slightly detached from actual, concrete world. Intuitive types would be much more to give up the convenience and comfort of modern age in return for excitement brought by exploration and undiscovered mysteries of the world. I have been intuitive while imagining why the world operates this way, what are the reasons behind certain unusual things happening, would there have been a better possibilities for doing things other way.

Feeling trait would be reflected in those people who would love to follow their heart first than their brain. They would care little to hide their emotions from others. From their perspective, we should not be afraid to listen to our innermost feelings and share them with the world – these individuals tend to be compassionate, sensitive and highly emotional. I believe that I poses feeling trait as I have seen in life where there were circumstances where I choose to cooperate rather than compete with my own colleague so that no one’s sentiment are hurt. I was also a part of a social group where we would do events for poor like distributing food grains, Books and clothing, so everyone had their own opinion of doing things. In my job too once while trading for a customer by mistakenly doing a wrong trade led to a certain loss. As it was my fault the customer was repaid for loses from office account however I requested that loses to get deducted from my salary as I didn’t want the organization to bear loses for my mistake.

Judging can be forming an opinion about anything. People with this trait usually doesn’t open up their opinions – they would rather come up with different contingency plans and just go ahead and deal with the challenges as they come. They prefer to have clarity in plans. Judging individuals tend to have strong work ethics, putting their duties and responsibilities over everything. Judging has sometimes helped to have an opinion about my customer like what category would he belong to? How much can I bother on him to get the target sales in need? Or like choosing a course for studying, how would it benefit me in my further endeavors? Is it worth investing time and money in it?

Assertive are the individuals who are self-assured, even tempered and mostly resistant to stress. They are unlikely to spend much time thinking about their past actions or choices. What’s done is done there is little point in analyzing it. People with this trait are more satisfied with their life and they also feel more confident in their abilities to handle challenges and unexpected situations. Remembering an incident from my early college life when I choose science as my field but couldn’t make it up in it eventually shifting to commerce. So in my 12th H.S.C board exams year I had to manage learning 11th base of accounts and simultaneously learning 12th accounts due to time restrains. Being assertive helped me to overcome my past that I couldn’t do good in the field of science but after that I succeeded in making a good career in commerce.

Strengths of protagonist

  • Tolerant: Protagonist are true team players. They respect listening to other people’s opinions, even when they are contradicting their opinions. They won’t reflect any form of disagreement or won’t argue with others.
  • Reliable: Protagonist can be reliable for any work given to them at any point of time. I remember an incident when I was made to handle the exhibition counter of my firm and my senior head asked me to make a presentation over the night to present it at the counter.
  • Charismatic: Charm and popularity are qualities protagonist have in spades. They know how to capture audience and pick up on mood and motivation in ways that allow them to communicate with reason, emotion, and passion whatever the situation calls for.

Weakness of protagonist

Struggle to make tough decisions: Protagonist often finds it difficult to make tough decisions especially if those consequences are humanitarian. Shifting my field of study was very tough decision for me. In my career too booking loses for a particular trade would be very difficult.

  • Too Sensitive: Protagonist sometimes feels problems that aren’t their owns and try to fix things they can’t fix, worrying if they are doing enough. Consulting my friend over his marriage relationship as I felt pity for the girl as she belonged to a very good and reputed family and had some dreams to fulfil with my friend during their married life.
  • Fluctuating Self Esteem: Protagonist sometimes ask for criticism more out of insecurity than out of confidence, always wondering what they could do better. If they fails to meet a goal or to help someone they promised, their self-confidence will undoubtedly plummet. After graduation when I couldn’t get into some good B-School my self-esteem was so plumed that I didn’t know exactly what should I do with life.

At the heart of it, Protagonists need to see how the story ends, to feel and experience the gratitude and appreciation of the people they’ve helped in order to be happy.
