Once I Was A Student, Now I Am A Teacher
I realize that teaching becomes business these days and it wasn’t helping the students. Because, I was good at conveying my ideas, I became a teacher. I remembered teaching my first student of mathematics and that look on his face where he understood everything I was telling him it was time like these I cherish as a teacher (listen to recording I couldn’t understand the phrase ) that is very much natural part of me. Hence, as a result once I was a student, now I am teacher. Over a course of past few years, I realize that there is unpolished element was present in me about studying, for few subjects like science and mathematics. I was able to understand the subject almost completely and able to help my batch mates confidently. I was unaware of this fact that as a student I could teach my fellow mates, while on the other hand, due to great mentorship of few teachers, one was my mathematics teacher, enhanced, polished my skills and motivated me and boost my confidence, so much that back then two years ago, when I completed my O levels, I started giving tuition for science subjects. It was all due to my confidence level and mentorship. As I became better in my studies, my batch mates and I realized that some of our science teachers weren’t able to explain few concepts to entire class very well and many students faced problems in this, but mostly when I cross question that concept I get idea about that concept and through notes and book I grasp full command on that concept. From next day, I start helping my class mates to clear confusion on various concepts. So with the time I get to know that I was able to communicate very well in science subject in terms of teaching. Along with this, whenever I promise anything to anyone, like for many times, I promised my friends to help them to get better grade, I was able to complete my task (Anything required here?).
As time elapse, I found that commitment is also vital element that should be present in teacher, which I have it already. As a student, I wasn’t able to identify the element of responsibility in myself, while in my O levels, due to irresponsible behavior of my towards studies in first year of O levels, I got B in Pakistan studies, which was very much below my expectations, but I got lesson from this and in second year I got grades up to my marks. Moreover, the more you commit the more responsibility you have. I also get benefits from being more responsible, in my last year of A-levels I participated in several science Olympiad in different schools and able to win awards in them all because of dedication. Once I was student, I was not very careful about my studies and also lack management skills, due to this I was behind deadlines and couldn’t be on time and suffers a lot. I remembered the incident that I had a paper tomorrow morning, I studied night before and messed up all my books and stationary everywhere and slept only 4 hours, when I woke up I was running out of time for my paper, it was only 15 minutes for paper to start as my all stationary is messed up I just took one pen and left for college but as I was already late, I arrived 15 minutes late and this 15 minutes cost me a lot in terms of my grades, but now as I move on and started teaching students it requires me to manage all the thing together like from my own life to my studies and to my teaching. So by now I am able to manage my university workload along with my social life and my working life.
Once, I was amazed at how principles and theorems were proved with the help of Mathematical Induction. Along with the great zest to solve complex numerical in class, I have also focused on enriching my mathematics skill by participating in International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest that boosted my confidence and prove my mettle. Moreover, then I have taken an initiative of conducting problem-solving sessions in which I along with my classmate are training students for the topics tested in NMTC (National Mathematics Talent Contest) and IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad Camp. Furthermore, I have been teaching mathematics as private tuition for last two years that developed my leadership and lateral thinking skills to tackle the individual queries with new ideas and approach towards it. I have also conducted the A Levels Mathematics Paper 3 Workshop in A Level School that has encouraged me to study the subject in great depth and recognize my mathematical potential. The feeling of contentment while solving a challenging numerical has firmly secured my decision to teach this subject in the future.
As it can be seen throughout my time as a teacher, I have learned things that I believe one cannot learn as a student. I have learned the art of connecting with people and I have been able to influence life in very important ways as a friend. Therefore, I think it is very important part of me. This is why I believe that I am now in a much better state mind and much better place where I am able to continue more back to the society.
