Overview Of Intent Of The Trump Policy According To The Administration
Policy #1 – “Stop and Frisk”
In the Mashable article titled “Here are 39 things Trump has Promised America”, it is stated that he (Trump) has promised to bring back the controversial police policy of stop-and-frisk, at least in Chicago. A stop-and-frisk refers to some brief non-intrusive police stop of a suspect. The Fourth Amendment requires that before stopping the suspect, the police must have a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been, is being, or is about to be committed by the suspect. This policy is needed because a lot of times “suspects” are not suspects, they’re just humans subjected to prejudice who most of the time end of being African American. It is to eliminate any false accusations against those convicted of crimes that they did not commit, as well as prevent issues such as police brutality or other avoidable altercations with police officers.
Policy #2 – Jobs
Donald Trump promised to implement the creation of 25 million jobs during is his time in office. It is said that it is to fix the unemployment rate within the United States, but the only issue is that he never stated the level of the career nor the level of education needed to apply for the job. In addition to this, he never gave much detail on the proposed policy which leads me to believe that the statement was just for positive publicity. Donald Trump has celebrated the historically low black unemployment rate but did not mention the extent of the issue. Black unemployment has been twice as low as white unemployment since the 1960s and is not an issue to be celebrated. If the shoe was on the other foot, there would be no celebration at all. The importance of job creation is obvious, it will help the recession amongst African Americans in the United States. Will Trump go through with this policy? We Don’t Know!
Policy #3 – The Great Wall
Trump has decided in short words that he is going to build a wall in between Mexico and the United States, blocked immigrants from sneaking over on territory. The wall is completely unnecessary and will act as another tourist attraction. According to Richard Parker, “the Great Wall of Trump existed solely in the mind of the man who conned millions into believing in it to make him president”. This is a statement that I completely agree with. Donald Trump tells the public what they want to hear and disguises, well attempts to, disguise what he can do in private. His words are just word that are supported by minimal to no evidence.
Future Implications of the selected policies
Policy #1: Stop and Frisk
The Trump administration claims that supporting the Fourth Amendment rights will solve the police brutality issues and unlawful seizures and searches, but only mentions the city of Chicago. In his words he said “it will maintain law and order”. The policy will target minorities. The greatest impact will be on, once again, African Americans. Is it really fair to those who look suspicious who may be up to nothing or those who look innocent, but are actually dangerous. Allowing officers to be prejudice is what the policy will do and lead to more issues. Stop and frisk eliminates the purpose of requiring a warrant to search. Now reasonable doubt is completely irrelevant and officers could search without any evidence leading to the act taking place. During a town hall meeting to discuss the policy and other issues within the black community. Jeff Robinson expresses his side to the proposed policy stating that is disrespectful to the black community. Verbatim he says “Any politician who would go to a black community and say stop-and-frisk is the solution to your problems is showing no respect for the intellectual capacity of that community”. The policy in itself is discriminatory, especially when the only race brought to the surface is African American. This policy has a negative impact and will not decrease violence, but increase it against authority.
Policy #2: Jobs
There are many headlines within media sources that claim the Trump administration has increased the African American unemployment rates at a record pace. New York Times editors say other wise. As stated before prior, Donald Trump is the “publicity wart”. He will make sure whatever is supposed to be heard is heard by the rest of America, but not everyone is naive. According to the latest data available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 708,000 more black Americans had jobs in July than in January 2017, the month Mr. Trump took office. Evidence that the Trump administration will support any lie Trump tells. The promise or policy that is dedicated towards helping minorities, targets them AGAIN. This policy does not help us, it hurts us because it is false, invisible, nonexistent. The jobs may have been offered or “created”, but not for black people.
Policy #3: The Great Wall
Rumor has it that the wall is in construction as we speak, but that is also not true. The bottom line is that Trump simply cannot afford the wall without snatching money from his prize possession, the military or without raising tax dollars. There is also an idea that it will act as an attraction rather than a barrier, which is another reason why gained the support from American citizens, the military, and the Federal government is slim to none. We may not have as much support as a black community, but apparently there is slight sympathy there for Mexico (who is also minority). The decision to build the wall will only seem necessary if that is Trump’s way of “creating jobs”. This will have a negative impact on all minorities because this only the first step to removing brown people from America. In reality the next target will be African Americans of course. Next thing you know we’ll be shipped off somewhere else. As a whole the only group of people that Trump’s policies support is Caucasians.
