Physical & Psychological Health Effects of Long Term TV Viewing 

According to experts there are a number of physical and mental issues or problem which is created by long time viewing the TV. We've known for long time that the emotional content of films and television program can effect psychological health. It can be done by directly affecting your mood and your mood can then affect many aspect of your thinking and behavior. Obesity, type 2diabetes and heart disease are among the risk of too much Tv time. 

A recent survey by Netflix found that 61 percent of 1500 online respondent said they being watch television regularly defined as watching from two to six episodes of the same show in one sitting. While the physical and mental health risk of remaining sedentary for long period of time - such as weight gain, laziness, tiredness, heart disease - are well known. TV viewing also increase the likelihood for unhealthy behaviors like eating heigh calories sancks or drinks .

A long time viewing tv can make cause of premature death.A study of more than 13000 participants published in the journal of American heart Association supported by the HSPH finding regarding premature mortality found that adult who spend three or more hours a day in front of television may double their risk of premature death. The increased risk was still apperent after accounting for age, gender and lifestyle factors such as smoking, obesity diet .

What are the psychological effects of watching TV? At the end of a long day work you might enjoy nothing more than curling up on the couch to watch the next episode of your favorite show with snacks in hand but is watching your favorite TV show hurting your mental health?

According to experts there are numbre of physical and mental signs that might mean that you should take a break from specific show for while. There is no need to write of all TV shows as harmful through in fact they can actually be a major tool for improving your mental health. Watching TV show that are claiming , inspiring, humorus or comforting can help (temporarily) ease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Emmy Crouter a psychotherpist who specializes in working with young adult, tell “bustle people often associate certain show with positive memories”, she says for example “if you grew up watching Spongebob every night with your sibling maybe its time to return to some of the lighthearted episodes every once in a while or pherhaps The Office remainds you of a time in your life when you had fewer responsibilities”.

When you are attentively watching what is happening in a show you might not be actively paying attention to whether your mental health is worsing or not but your body can give some clues about whats happening in your mind. A TV show maybe hurting your mental and increase symptoms with which you already struggle. Crouter says for example if you are some one who being twisting your hair when your anxiety beings to worse and you notice your self doing that while watching certain show that might be a sign that its time to switch it off and put something else on.

When you really love a TV show you might find yourself talking about the plot with your friends, sanding GIFs from the show in texts or even buying merch. This might be totally balnced for you but if you find yourself too preoccupied with a TV show Crouter says “this is especially true if you find the show disturbing in some way. For example if you keep replaying a voilent scene over and over in your mind , you may want to take it from the show” she says. 

So, to sum up, if the show is one that you find uplifting or even encouraging in your mental health journey thinking a lot about it might be totally Ok but if you become fixated on the negativity on screen that might not be harmless .
