Becoming a Teacher Leader: the Importance of PPST

Being a teacher or professors is very challenging for the 21st Century Learners. It has a wide variety of responsibilities. You can slay to this generation if you really know how to become an effective teacher, but before we become a professional teacher inside the classroom we need first to do the basic. Which is study, or being a student. Now that I am just in the stage of knowing different things, as a student one of my best weapon to become an excellent teacher is taking my professional education subject which is the Educ14.

Not just simply taking it, but adapting is the best way. The Educ14 subject with the description of “Special Topics” is the subject where I will never forget, through these subjects, I learned and I gathered new knowledge, ideas, concept, and strategies on how to face the reality of being a teacher and I must say also that because of this subject I will become a very useful teacher. I think this subject helps me a lot to fulfill the emptiness in my mind. As a future teacher, I need to be ready and this subject will guide me to become an effective and efficient one. The things that I learned from the Educ14 are; I already know the different domains in Philippine Professional Standard for Teachers (PPST), what are the uses of it, the functions of it and the role of the teacher in the 21st century learners. "Becoming A Teacher Leader: Importance of PPST Essay" paper says on what kind of quality that our teachers had. This will also the expectations of teacher’s increasing levels of knowledge, practice and professional engagements. I learned also that through this PPST, I can establish learning environments that are responsive to learner’s diversity. In this subject also I learned and I answered the question bothering in my mind. Before, I was wondering if what are the category or the stage of the teachers, while they are in the service or even retirement, then thanks to Educ14 subject because my question was answered very clearly. So, I learned that the teachers are also having the stage or what we call the career stages. Beginning Teacher, Proficient Teacher, Highly proficient Teacher and Distinguish Teacher.

Through the years of their service as a professional teacher, is where they belong to the classification of career stages. I also learned the 7 Domains that are being required by the teachers to be effective in the 21st century in the Philippines. We should adapt and apply it for our learner’s learning days will become very meaningful, to show their skills to provide them learning environment safe, secure and conducive. Also for us, as a teaching-learning facilitator, we can create and develop our own teaching strategy. I learned also on how to become a teacher leader, as a future teacher I already know how to facilitate properly my students. I will be the facilitator in the four sides of the classroom, and now I already know how I will manage the classroom and make it conducive, effective, efficient and interactive class. Because of this subject, another window open for us to seek for the opportunity. Last September 8, 2018, all 4th year students whom taking the Educ14 subject was attended the Seminar for “On Becoming a Teacher Leader” I was very glad that we had that seminar, because, through this very informative seminar, all of us got an idea and knowledge on how we conduct our practice teaching or even if we are a licensed teacher. One of the speakers took about the k-12 updates. She discuss the implementation of the k-12 curriculum, the voucher program, the certificate after senior high and junior high, and also the grading system, this topic will help us a lot especially for us that we are going to take our practice teaching, also we can use it someday if we are in our professions. We can’t deny the fact that we will handle the k-12 students, moreover, we already know what was the k-12 all about. The other speaker is tackled about the Special and Inclusive Education, this topic also was nice and very informative. There are many speakers talked to that seminar. I will not mention them one by one, as long as I remember their words during the seminar and I bare it in my mind and in my heart. In that seminar, that we’ve participated we learned a lot and for sure, and we can use it not just today but as long as we are in our professions.

On the next seminar, that we’ve participated last September 22, 2018, at LRV students atrium in the morning and at CDE quadrangle in the afternoon is the seminar I’d like so much, compare to the seminar who was conducted before, especially in the afternoon session, though both seminars are very informative and also interesting, the topics in the afternoon session catches my attention. As a millennial future teacher, I need something new about technology especially its application or tool to be used in my daily lesson. The topics in the afternoon are so good and very interesting, only that because of the time, the discussion gets too fast, to the point that the participants are getting bored already, not listening and distracted but the topics are very catchy.

So much for that, the seminar conducted was very useful. Thanks to the speakers who share their knowledge, expertise, and skills for us, thanks for sharing your talents and efforts. We can use it as a source during our teaching. In this subject, we are trained a lot and prepare very well for the practice teaching, in 1semester, our school days become very meaningful and fruitful, and of course one of the reason is the Educ14 subject. On its description, “Special Topics” says it all. Before we become a professional teacher we first undergo a training. Training of mind, training of physical, emotional and training of determination. In this subject, I learned how to become a teacher leader in the future for the 21st century generation.
